I'm keeping an eye on Battersea London and Dogstrust for a while but unfortunately no luck so far. I also considered Battersea Windsor but last Friday being in traffic for 45 min just to get onto the M4 and then another 30 min to get to Windsor is just not done for me.
Finding something more...
Laray... I picked up something interesting which I not noticed before.
"been walking him late, about 9pm"
Does this mean, about 9pm is his last toilet visit. If yes, make sure he has a toilet visit right before bedtime. Puppies need toilet visits quite regularly.
"but he comes back so thirsty...
Your dog being only focused on the sounds when on the road, sounds to me this will need to be trained again from the ground up. Start from the start and slowly build it up again to gain confidence.
You mention she doesn't take note of the sounds when in the house. This is a very good basis to...
What is the reason for her to come into your bed to sleep? Since when does she sleep in your bed?
This happens every night? How long does it last? What other behaviorally signs does she show..?
Does it stop once she is under the covers and close to you?
Like Boostar mentions, the vet should...
Train her to be calm with that sound, that the sound is good and she need not react differently to it from other sounds. That is the long term solution you want. Telling a dog of is a short term solution only and may impact negatively in the long term.
So.. I'm offering myself as a dog walker/trainer.
Till next year I'm unable to have my own dog (has to do with being a responsible owner kind of thing).
I have no friends with dogs and I'd love to get in touch with decent people who have one in Acton - Richmond area.
Small to medium dogs...
Hi GingerDog! I'm sorry to hear you are struggling with this.
Can you tell us a bit more about the training and 'all of the right things'? I don't doubt what your dog behaviourist is training. It would be good to know more about it and to see from what other angles this issue can be approached...
Hi Deb :) welcome to dogforum. What kind of dog is Rocky?
Hope he will learn a lot from you :) are you giving him any training at the moment?
Kuddos for rescuing a dog! :) may you 2 be happy forever!
I agree ilovedogs7, training is very important and a crate shouldn't be used for the purpose or pee/poo/chewing prevention.
Some misuse and abuse the crate, others make the crate part of the house, just as any room is. It really depends on the perspective you look at it.
We humans rationalise...
If he keeps peeing inside, then you have the above to refer to :)
Good luck and keep us posted... Would love to hear about the progression, especially if you managed to toilet-train him in a different way than I described.
Hey shevyUK,
First of all, kuddos for pro positive reinforcement training!
How long are you in the new house now?
Is anyone of the family household (even a bit) stressed due to the move?
For a dog to behave well in 1 place, unfortunately, does not guarantee of same behaviour in another...
That indeed doesn't seem like separation anxiety if other times during the day he doesn't howl and cry. And thank you for not using a shock collar! These punitive measures don't change behaviour, instead they suppress behaviour.
Does he always go for a pee after waking up early?
Before your...
I fully agree with pippywhippet .. it really depends on how you use the cage. If the cage is (ever) used as a punishment or because owners are lazy, then I'd say it is a wrong way of use.
Using a crate properly can be seen as a person going to their own (metaphorical cage) to sleep for example...
There is no straight answer in this .. but the first part in getting a good recall is to train his motivation for something. Does your dog like to play with balls, frisbees etc? A good way to train is let your dog work for his food. A hungry stomach will surely get his attention and will provide...
