I think it's a mistake to divide whippets into 'show ponies' versus 'workers' and assume they must fall into one of the two categories.
My dogs are KC registered from working lines on one side and show on the other but I don't choose to work or show them. They are bred for function, just not...
I volunteer for a greyhound rescue and we've had this problem once before with one of the rehomed greys. In kennels, greys are used to walking in the same places and always with other dogs. Your grey probably needs the safety of a pack while she gets used to her new world. As fallenangel has...
Using this argument, no-one should keep a GSD unless they have sheep (w00t)
You can know what a whippet's function is without seeing hunting every week in the same way you can understand that the moon isn't made of cheese - you don't need to go there to understand it.
My whippets don't work...
I sincerely feel for you at this really difficult time. :( It must feel like your whole life is on hold. I can totally understand you being an emotional wreck, as I find it heart rendingly sad just to read about his situation. Hope his meds give him the best quality of life for as long as...
Lovely to read this update on the gorgeous Dashy
He sounds like he's really settled and is learning loads. I might send Emmy to you for a boot camp in recall....she turns the saluki 'deaf ear' until I send Roscoe to 'bring her back' :)) She's great in the house and garden, and in the...
Dash really brought me round to appreciating the beauty of 'stripeys' but I still think the solid colours/ partis are just stunning. I've got fawn, blue and black now - God help us if a pure white comes up :teehee: Good job I'm not in the market for a pup as R and Gs dam just had her...
I agree, Wendy. Emmy won't be long learning to open the dog food cupboard, I can tell. It wouldn't occur to our whippets but Dash worked it out within minutes of seeing me open it the first time! She also wasn't house trained when we got her but learned very quickly that 'go toilet' meant pee...
Hello :))
As Eve mentioned, I've recently adopted a whippet x saluki, though we think the saluki may be about 1/8 as she has virtually no 'feathering' on her tail/ ears. As she was a stray there could also be something else in the mix but she looks like a big whippet with distinctive saluki...
Many congrats on your new girl  They definitely have a way of finding you - only a month ago we were perfectly happy with two whippets and now via a few mad coincidences we have our whippet x saluki, Emmy.
Roscoe and Grover are two today :)) As Emmy was a rescue we have no idea of her birthday so to make things easier we decided her birthday would be the same day  So today is Emmy's honorary 3rd birthday as the vet said she was between 2 and 3 - sorry if we've added a few months on you...
Three whippets and two teenagers and a husband and a cat take up a lot of time :)
I love films and good TV. I walk rescued greyhounds for the RGT once a week. I also love music, especially going to gigs and usually have one or two lined up to look forward to - have been into indie, industrial...
I'll take some more pics and get them on here but she's so friendly now that as soon as I go near her she wants hugs - so I just get pics of a big head looming towards me
Yes she's definitely got some saluki there! In the dark kennels she just looked like a big whippet but it wasn't til I got her home that I could se the beautiful Cleopatra 'eye makeup' and the way she holds her ears. Her tail comes up and over when she's happy, like a saluki/ Afghan tail but...
Well, we didn't think we were ready for number three but she found us and we decided after many emotional discussions that we would keep her
Meet Emmy:
She's not strictly all whippet, as I'm sure you can tell from the pic, but as most people I know on here are whippet people, I...
