    Is it the right time?

From what you have said, it does sound as if she has lost her joy in life. Is there anything that still makes her perk up? Would you say she is content? You say 'What if I let her go and then it was too soon'? There are always 'what ifs', and you can never know what her life would have been...

    Crufts

There was a lovely line-up of dogs in the final - JRT, whippet, miniature schnauzer, cocker spaniel, papillon, Tibetan mastiff and Australian shepherd. The papillon was very pretty, and I was also taken by the Tibetan (clearly a cross between a lion and a bear), but delighted that the whippet won!

"FRESHPET" sponsors of Crufts this year.

Where in the website does it say that their food is grain free (as opposed to them having grain free varieties)? I can't see it on a quick look.

"FRESHPET" sponsors of Crufts this year.

Remember the days when we were led to believe that all the Crufts winners ate Pedigree Chum? 🤣

Belgian mal cross and weight/food issue

Could this be hormone-related - has she had a season? Did the vet suggest checking a stool sample for worms or other parasites? This is something you could check yourself by using a service such as Wormcount. And does she seem fine in herself, with normal energy levels? Is there any reluctance...

    Crufts

Mr R has an aversion to dogs with uppy tails which leave their bumhole visible. It's quite funny when the judge is asking the dogs to walk out, turn and walk back again - for about half the dogs tonight he said, 'Oh, that one looks nice....... no it doesn't' 🤣 I called the winner of the toy...

    Crufts

I've just dug up a video of Bassets hunting - oh, if only they were all bred like that now... and had the chance to have that much fun in life.

    Crufts

I was intrigued by the commentator describing the Basset hound as 'athletic'. Compared to what? It would be good if breeders and owners aspired to make them more athletic, of course. One of Jasper's friends was a Basset hound called Daisy. She loved to play chase with him, bless her. He would...

    Crufts

Is anyone else watching Crufts? I'm very happy to see a JRT winning the terrier group and a whippet winning the hound group. All four placed dogs in the hound group were sighthounds - not that I'm biased of course... I was sad the saluki didn't make the final cut. I'm rather in love with the...

    Reactive barking

I'm wondering if you could entertain him in the garden with sniffing games, or maybe even set up a small agility course for him - something that will exercise his brain and he can get really focused on. OK, it'll be a pain that you'll have to be doing stuff with him whenever he's in the garden...

Advice for a young, fully incontinent dog because of an injury

It's wonderful that you've done so much for this dog, when others would have given up on her - respect. A raw food diet wouldn't make her poos larger, but should make them much firmer and less frequent, so that might help. We have details on raw feeding here: Raw feeding

    Reactivity with other dogs

Yes, I expect it is down to the stress of being rehomed - and there will be different sights, sounds and smells on her walks. Have a read of this article on reactivity, but do ask if you have any questions: Dog Reactivity Personally I'd let her follow you around the house if she wants to -...

This is the trouble with social media, isn't it? Everything gets magnified. It's bound to vary with area, of course, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Older dog turned on younger dog

My (neutered) dog hated any young adult unneutered male dog with a vengeance. Chances are your younger dog has just recently started giving off these aromas, so neutering him may well help. In the meantime, do please double down on preventing this happening, or it may be more of an entrenched...

Older dog turned on younger dog

What genders are they? This can be common when both dogs are female. I'd start off by getting a full vet check for both of them - if either is feeling any discomfort, they're going to feel defensive. Either they then get snarky with the other one, or the other one picks on them because they...
