    Beddy/Whippet: Pups?

Flossy’s now five years old and been with me, in rural Norfolk, for the past two. She’s healthy, well behaved and a joy to everyone and dog she meets. We got little information when she was ‘rescued’ but it’s likely she’s had a litter in the past. We’d love to have another, and we’ve had...

    Excessive ‘cleaning’

Thanks. The OCD suggestion sounds quite likely to be at the root of the problem here, and adding some extra activities to her day can’t do any harm, can it? She’s having surgery today; a mammectomy - not related to this (I don’t think it is, anyway), so I’ll ask the vet about skin scrape.

    Excessive ‘cleaning’

Thanks again, for the responses. So, yes, glands done, Antihistamine has no effect, nor does lavender - all tried. The skin scrape is new to me… I’ll ask vet. Aloe shall try too. Thanks

    Does Flossy need a trim?

Thanks. That’s valuable advice and much appreciated.

    Excessive ‘cleaning’

Salmon. But she was itching before we started with that.

    Excessive ‘cleaning’

We had a house-move late last year and it was a stressful time. During which Flossy started to groom herself a bit too much, to the point where she’s lost fur, especially around the back-end and base of tail. We thought it was to do with the anxiety. Now we’re settled again, She’s still doing...

    Does Flossy need a trim?

So, summer’s almost here and with the heat, the hound’s sweltering. I’ve seen other longhair Lurchers who’ve had a close-crop and they look good and seem cooler somehow. But I’ve also read (somewhere, not sure where) that cutting into the lower, Merino coat isn’t a good idea because it might...

Rolf! (Hello) (Flossy has a problem)

Thanks again, Forum, for the advice. F goes for surgery tomorrow; Vet #3 satisfied me all round with explanations and reassurance about the anaesthesia (she’ll have a local only) and (not the overriding factor but important) is 1/3 of Vet #1’s price.

Rolf! (Hello) (Flossy has a problem)

Thanks for that. What you say has helped me. My heart is telling me that the surgery option isn’t necessarily the kindest thing for her, and you’ve reinforced that with a couple of important considerations (the anaesthesia risk, the risk after interference). Just asking a vet doesn’t mean you...

Rolf! (Hello) (Flossy has a problem)

This is Flossy... She’s around 4-5 years old, a Bedlington-Whippet Lurcher. She’s been with us for a couple of years and is much loved by us and everyone who meets her. Recently, I found a little lump, about the size of my thumbnail, next to one of her nipples. Took her to vet who...
