I may be completely wrong, but I am sure I have heard of this before from a friend who used to have racing Greyhounds. I seem to remember that it happens in horses and Greyhounds when they have run themselves to exhaustion- it's called azoturia or something? May be mistaken, but off to look it...

And Norman enjoyed racing with them too, even though he had to wear the Whippet's muzzle which was too big and covered his eyes! He still tried his best though! I think he would have run again and again if he'd had the chance- not bad for an 11 year old and not even a trace of stiffness today...
