    Dog Flap

It really depends on the brand of flap you're buying. Some are made to go all the way to the ground, some are set up off the ground. The real answer is "big enough for your biggest dog to fit through". Take a look at this site as it has some explanations. It also has a lot of types of flap...

    A Long Wait At Home

I'd consider NOT feeding him before you go, either no din at all or just a light snack. Then put his regular meal in the Kongs or an interactive toy. (they have balls that roll around to dispense kibble, or you can get creative with the Kongs). Being hungry will make him more likely to work...

    No, No, No!!!!!

It is a shame that it is gone--a great source or information. It is all very well to say that only certain people should be able to edit certain information--sounds like a simple solution. Except who is going to establish, police, and enforce that? How many hours a week, month, year would...

    Diet For Whippets

Actually, "complete and balanced" as a pet food label just means that in a short feeding trial that no animals eating the diet showed major signs of nutrtional deficiencies. The definitions also require that the food not be deficient in any major known nutrient. So, make up a diet, feed it to...

    Bokashi Composting For Dog Scraps?

Aaah well, I knew it was a somewhat obscure question! For anyone interested, here is a link to some info on bokashi bins and composting...it seems like technology worth trying if I'm aiming to reduce the waste I send off with the trashman. Guess I'll experiment a bit with the bones (always...

    Bokashi Composting For Dog Scraps?

Hi all! I've been lurking lately, and haven't posted in ages. But I have a question related to bokashi composters (they ferment instead of rot) since they are rarely used here in the USA. Hopefully I can call on your collective international wisdom! I'm debating getting a Bokashi bucket for...

    Differences?

Ooohhh....here's another great one. from a discussion thread: http://www.whippetlovers.com/board/viewtop...990d21d1b5be1c1 ...and a very whippet-centric discussion on potty-training the little IG devils: http://groups.msn.com/WhippetWorld/general..._Message=169802 Have fun picking out your...

    Eletric Dog Training Collars

I agree that for any normal training they should not be used. Not for whppets, not for any dogs. However, having said that, I actually own one and use it occasionally. Yes, I've tried it on myself...on a low setting, the right kind of remote-controlled collar is uncomfortable but not painful...

Dog Doors (Dog Flaps) - Advice Needed

This site is in the USA, but there has to be something similar available close to you... http://www.moorepet.com/moorepet/index.cfm...allpatioinserts The only downside I've heard about these is that they don't work so well if you are, uhhhh, large-boned. The dog door part takes up some of the...

To Supplement Or Not To Supplement?

I feed a combination of a pre-made meat/organ/bone/veggie mix (a.k.a. blender-beast) and raw meaty bones. Even the 10-week puppy will go after a chicken wing! I supplement a little, but do it randomly. I think the secret to raw-feeding is variety over time. On some level, this involves...

    Bloody ear.

Mark, I work in an Emergency Department...I can tell you that LOTS of people super-glue body parts together! More important than not touching your fingers together is NEVER TO RUB YOUR EYES!! If you get glue on your fingers, acetone nailpolish remover helps to get things un-stuck. If it's in...

    Bloody ear.

Lampingman, New Skin should help, although you should have a bitch-holder around when you put it on since it stings like !#*$! when it first goes on. I don't know if this is done commonly with dogs, but human athletes use Super-Glue all the time to seal little wounds...it's very similar to the...

    whippets getting bigger

I'm not sure as th the "Why" of it all, but I know I own a huge goliath of an American whippet! He's 22" and 37 lbs at 11 months. You can see most of his ribs and all, he's just a big boy. I've heard American lines (espacially show-bred) run bigger in all dimensions compared to European ones...
