As you say its early days and dogs by nature have to fight it out for alpha male. As Sophie said if your pup was no socialised as a pup (due to him being away from his little mates) it could be he doesn't know how to react with another dog in the house. It is difficult to not worry but if you do...
You have to break his habit and let him know that you are in-charge. You have to ignore him until you are ready to get up or if you are in the same room as him ignore him and don't make eye contact. You have to be more stubborn than him.
Is there anything else that is worrying you? Is he still eating and drinking? Another trip to vets might be the best idea just to put your mind at rest!
I had this problem with my boy Theo while he was on royal canin - and he started to loose weight quite quickly. Are you changing food over at the moment or have you made any other changes? The vet will advise you to feed chicken and rice to get them to eat, but I changed theo over onto a new...
It sounds like he has been through a rough start! Food wise I feed my Theo Natural Dog Food Company food after I got him from the breeder as I wanted to give him the best I could and I have to say I would never go back and I have recommended to my friends some who were feeding raw and they are...
I am in a lucky situation where I leave my Boy at home and have a dog sitter than comes in to walk him and spend time with him - I find it a better option than kennels. As you say you never know what things are like when you have left your dog in someone else's care. I hope you find a kennel...
I owe my own business and I have my boy Theo with me everyday - everyone on site knows not to feed him and it has allowed him to be very social which is great as he is a Great Dane and a lot of people dont like the breed as they seem them as agressive.
Have you thought anymore about the breed...
How are you getting on? Eingana has a great point, dogs whether adult or puppies need a safe space so creating a den is a great idea even if the crate at night has the door open you know they feel safe.
Theo wouldn't get in the car of his own accord for a long while so we built up our time and doing it step by step he has now learned to love the car. He hears the key and he sat at the door waiting as he knows it normally means a nice long walk.
We have a crate for him in the back so that we...
There are quite a few stories on here of people really struggling with two siblings as they don't bond with their owners, only with each other and it can lead to them fighting etc.
Personally I wouldn't get siblings just incase but there would be nothing to stop you from getting another dog...
Are you planning on coming home at lunch time or have someone visit her? Mental stimulation will be the best way to tire her out. You need to builds a relationship of trust and don't be surprised if she does have a few accidents in the house when you first move her as she will be incredibly nervous.
There is some fantastic advice here and it sounds like you were getting there yourself so congrates! I hope it keeps going smoothly and thank you for rescuing a dog its a lovely thing to do!
Does she have any time on her own apart from at night time? It might be worth giving her some alone time in there with some toys and a kong before a nap so that she gets used to the crate.
You may also want to close the crate door so that she cant get out and drag it around as you wouldnt want...
Contacting a local rescue centre is not a bad idea as they may be able to help find you the perfect fit, they know the dogs as well as anyone can. They might be able to tell you who would be suitable for you?
That does seem quite late as everyone has said you want to be able to socialise your puppy as early as you can!
Have you got a reason as to why she is doing it so late?
Distraction and building her confidence to be left alone is the best bet! Build up the time you leave her, do you leave her alone at anytime?
You don't want her getting seperation anxiety so its worth trying to get her used to having some alone time!
I personally didn't use puppy pads incase Theo tried eating them. I tried to get him into a routine of when he ate he went straight outside and this was the case after every meal. We had a couple of nights where he soiled his crate but once he was in the routine he seemed to try and hold it as...
