    Hello and volunteering/paid work

So I understand, no porcine insulin. No porcine or bovine heart valves. No vaccination, which has been cultured in eggs. Many other drugs which could only be tested on animals. Try working on a Childrens Ward with dying children. This has gone a long way from being a Dog Forum.

    Close Encounters

Dudley very rarely has the lead fully extended it is a three metre one.. He tends to stick to my side except on the field if he knows the dogs. In the street he has an ordinary lead. He tends not to approach any dog he doesn't know. Today we went to the Park. I am very aware he is not keen on...

    Same old, same old

I let Dudley choose his walks. Most mornings he likes the field followed by the pub. Afternoons he is a bit random and depending on what direction he chooses leaving the house I guide him in the general direction. Our long walks involve the woods, the canal with a stop at the Bistro, or the...

Do's and don'ts at the groomers.

My groomer tells me she often has problems with very matted dogs which have to be almost shaved to get rid of the mats and tangles.

Miles The Ridgeback - vet training and feeding

What a well behaved dog. Dudley is always suspicious of his food in case in contains anything he doesn't like. A very slow eater from the beginning. Maybe I should have taught him to wait and then go to his feed. Miles is beautiful. Look in his ears but haven't got an otoscope. So can't look...

Raising a puppy in a flat and working shifts. Need advice

Unfortunately I have to agree re puppies in flats. My granddaughter discovered this when Dudley got a little older and her circumstances changed. I have had him from 22 weeks. She agrees he is better with having a garden and we are retired so he gets lots of walks and attention.

    Crufts * Spoiler Alert*

Dudley is a small fluffy crossbreed but he gets lots of exercise. We have a play every day too with stimulating games. As well as four small dogs on the field this morning we had two cockers, a Springer, two labradors and a St Bernard. I doubt any of the cockers go hunting, or the retrievers do...

    Crufts * Spoiler Alert*

Caught Crufts for the first time tonight. Why do the handlers hold the leads so tight the dogs heads are pulled up unaturally.

Love only goes so far ?

Many years ago we adopted a feral cat for our stables We were visited three times until they were certain we were right for the cat. He slept in the hay barn. Kept the rats away and eventually allowed us to stroke him. We had him fifteen years and he was always an outdoor cat. Vaccination...

There is a swivelling cushion you can get to aid getting out of the car with two feet. Also I was told a plastic bag works just as well.

    Im in the wars

My hip has been absolutely great, thank you. Hubby knows the sciatica could return. He does drive a car and does get in it incorrectly. After my hip replacement I was given the advice about getting in the car correctly.

Love only goes so far ?

My friends, whose collie I visit daily, bought a lovely kennel for the dog and with a large back garden they had this theory that he would live outside. Just never happened, the kennel is still outside, he has never been in it. Over three years now. The garden is great for throwing balls and...
