What an exquisitely pretty dog!
Sorry about the fireworks problems - I have had a number of dogs that were terrified of the noise, and a few that couldn't have cared less. I found Dorwest Herbs very helpful, but overall the best I could do along with that was to provide a warm dark "safe place"...
Rolling in a very used nappy that someone far more disgusting than my dog had dumped by a public footpath. Then rubbing up against me before I realised he'd done that. Then dear husband, instead of going straight home so I could clean up, insisted he stopped the car at a shop on the way back.
I...
Agree with that. I don't know what is scheduled to happen there, but it is no way to socialise any dog. How about you go without your dog to suss out what happens before you commit?
Re: fleas - depending on the coat your dog has, a battery-fitted flea comb used daily is useful when used in...
You can still be social - just either arrange your socialising outside while leaving her at home, or if at home, in another room where nobody should enter (if visiting children are likely to disobey then lock the room) make this room her Safe Space and get her used to it by degrees not just...
I'd say wait as long as you can, and despite the scare stories, not spaying at all is also an option. I have kept a number of unspayed bitches, and while extra care is needed, it isn't that difficult. I also had a stud dog, and he wasn't bred to any of them because he was related. We live in a...
I agree. This is serious and likely to end in a badly damaged or dead dog. Animals, including us, are programmed to take out the sick and weak, so your pup is following something instinctive that he can't help, and your old dog knows it. I'm not gussying this information up because it's all too...
The parrot mimicking you could make training extra difficult because it teaches the dog either to deaf you out i.e. ignore the voice commands, or else become a neurotic wreck. I trained my dogs to hand signals, so you might consider that. Of course the dog has to be facing you. If you want to go...
What a trying time you are having! I do hope things improve massively and quickly - better looked back on than gone through.
I can help with one thing only - put a dab of neat lavender oil on the cold sore.
There is no reason to stop the apple cider vinegar if that is what works for this dog. Additionally, I'd suggest adding a small amount of either olive oil or butter. GSDs often have dodgy digestions, so it's a matter of what helps this particular dog. Sounds to me that you are doing well.
We here have gone through this many times, and it never gets easier, so we understand and empathise and send cyber hugs. Let yourself mourn. It is valid to feel the way you do.
Remember what the late Queen Elizabeth II so memorably said: "Grief is the price we pay for love".
I agree - I had one who was terribly travel sick until 9 months old, and then - never again. I'd suggest keep to very short journeys if possible, so it doesn't become ingrained. I think these days Dorwest Herbs have something that helps some dogs, and they are a very approachable company, so...
