I've been asked a few times recently so i thought i'd better post a start date for the handicap, we'll be starting back night racing on Wednesday 6th April 6.30pm, if anyone is willing to get there early to help set up it'd be much appreciated as we'll be limited for light in the first few weeks.

We'll trial the pups & time the adult dogs in on the first night & if there's enough light we'll have some heats.

Any info contact me on 01942 200336

Who's coming on Wednesday then??

(still on tomorrow btw!)

we will be there wensday we will get there early to help set up yay wensday again and franks chippy for tea after

all i need now is a dog to run

wendys

23 dogs broke down into 5 pups trialling, 10 timing in & 8 scratch dogs - not a fabulous turn out but i guess that was mainly down to the weather yesterday. The 5 pups that trialled did lovely & i'll look forward to seeing them start racing soon. It was nice to see some new faces too for a change.

From next week the scratch dogs will be handicapped too, we have some youngsters, veterans and average dogs as well as a couple of open class heavyweights so it's only fair we aren't having the same dogs winning each week plus the young dogs need a win every now & then, we'll see how it works out anyway.

See you all again next week!

Wednesday 20th April will be a trophy meeting

Wednesday 27th April will be the 25yd Dash

13th April 2005

22 dogs for racing, 8 youngsters for trialing & 1 lurcher. We struggled for light again, so some of the ped's only got 1 run - thanks to those with the peds for pulling out of the final/cons to trial with the pups, i'm sure it's much appreciated by those that are schooling young dogs.

As of next week, any loose dogs whilst racing is going on will be fined £5.

All times back to scratch

So how does the scratch handicap work then? :D

I think most of the scratch racers would prefer simple advance and retard; Say advance 1/2 yard for losers of heats, heat winners remain on same mark and final winner retard by 1yrd.

New-comers go in at scratch. ( although some dogs may be running behind scratch)

I think most of us would prefer a maximium start per race, say 3-5 yrds. While we need to handicap to give everyone a reasonable chance i think we should stay with the spirit of scratch racing by having all the dogs reasonably close at the start. Without being elitist i think it would spoil the racing for the majority if there was 10 yrd start just because a dog was big.

Nothing wrong with the marks tonight in view of last weeks races.

how i worked it this week - nothing complicated about it:

losers +1/2yd

heat winner - 1/2yd

final winner - 1yd

newcomers in at scratch (obviously)

That's fine by me. :))

I couldn't work it out because Gingerbred only got 1/2yrd of Solo instead of 1 1/2 yrd when they ran in the final. ( although the marks you put up on the results above would be correct)
