Hello!

I currently have a 1 year old whippet x bedlington lurcher. He is a vibrant and very friendly chap. He absolutely loves other dogs, very playful, there is no treat that will lure him away from other dogs! I am considering getting him a companion, I was wondering if anyone had some advice on the following points:

Do I get another male or is a bitch a better option?

What age dog? (I'm happy to adopt an older but active dog)

How will it impact my current dog?

Thanks, I look forward to your replies

Hello, in general mixed sexes are easier than single sex. But as a sight hound the chances are your lovely dog would be fine with either. Obviously if you do mix sexes then precautions would need to be taken to avoid them breeding. In single sex households two males tend to get on better than two females, when females fall out it gets serious. But and it is a very big but, the dogs temperament is the biggest factor. As to age I would say its entirely up to you. With your original dog I am sure he will be fine most likely he will enjoy having a play mate.
