Well I cant believe Tigger ( Southern Scott ) is 5 years old today, it seems like yesterday we were going up the moterway to pick him up at seven weeks old.

We had a great first three years racing with very few injurys, and a lot of wins, in pups and adults we only raced him once in yearlings, which he won.

Now its the veterans, only he has had one toe removed, and has a dropped gracilus, so this part of his career is going to be a bit tougher. Look forward to racing next year as the last year has been poor due to poor form, Tigger had a few injuries that we could not find, but resulted in loss of his normal 100% effort.

See you in the new year, Peter and Jade.

Time waits for no man nor whippet either Scotty, but i am sure that you will and he will enjoys his veteran racing. It always seemed to me as if any pressure was off the dogs that raced in the veterans and that i was able to enjoy seeing them race for the first time so to speak, gone were the nerves as they entered the twilight of their racing years. Good luck to you both and to tigger. :luck:

:) just thinking the same peter, 5 years old and what a lovely litter they were, and here i' am with other litter of pups to lookafter  doing it all over again :b

mickey whizz is 5 tommoro seems like yesterday he was born wish it was yesterday he was born lol

happy birthday southern scott

good luck with rest of his career, naz(wonderwall)won champion of champs with dropped gracilus so you never know ey,all the best for next year

Happy Birthday Tigger and Mickey Whizz

Coral and Time had their 5th birthday last week too-

Personally I don't like veteran racing at all-although I am fully aware some do and look forward to this new section-fair enough.

Only really use the vet. section when our dogs haven't had a run for a while-wrong weight-or after an injury to see if their back to ok-as their isn't usually many running in the heat-less pressure? next best to a trial.......solo

Anyone else not like/interested in veteran section...?

Just my view-not out to offend anyone who does like it.

Might change my mind when we have a kennel full of oldies-but at the moment don't gain any pleasure from watching our dogs in this section.

Would sooner they just had a good old run on the beach to feed their racing appetite when they can no longer hold their own.

Happy Birthday Tigs, hope to see you soon xx

in answer to karens question id love to have a dog that was still racing as a veteran most of my dogs seem to get serious injuries around about the age of four lol mickey whizz retired @ 4 hardly any vet scratch races anyway but if he was still racing and there was vet scratch then i expect i wud put him in rather than race the good scratch dogs of today. :D

Good luck TIGGER in the veterans next year. May you keep accident free

In answer to Steve's comments about racing in the vets, I can see where he comeing from. but dogs are no different than people if you are always running at the back because of lack of speed you get used to just lagging along until the end. I think vet racing gives the older dog a chance to get his nose in front again. But I will agree with steve I would rather have a good race with full entry rather than a solo in the vets.

I only hope the BWRA opens the door for vets at the championships this year, as the amount of enrtys in the Sindwinder is pathetic, when ther was about thirty vets at the track the were not allowed to run, yet many of them were supremme open winners which is normally a lot harder to win than a weight class win, sometimes a solo one at that.

When Mr Peel donated the Sindwinder trophy for vets, there were hundreds more dogs running, so it made sence to limit the entries. Times have changed we have to move with the times or we will lose even more people from the sport. Open the door at the AGM before this years rules are set.

Thank you Ricky for your congratulations-you forgot to mention Time who won her class in the veterans too.

Like I said-we use the veterans when necessary-None of our dogs have run for a few weeks-so this was an easier option for them...and Coral also had a bitch to line after his racing.

Not getting into tickle tackle-Ricky

In my original post I already said I was not trying to offend other vet. owners-

I have lots of respect for others dogs-we have 5 veterans too remember-

by saying easier option I mean-there is usually less dogs running in each heat-less chance of injury etc

Anyhow nice everyone has differences of opinion.

Karen

P.S Scotty-This was my post not Steves-he also has a different opinion to me about Veteran running.

But then he has a different opinion on most things :clown:

no problem karen but alot of people like there vetran racing wether your against the best dogs or the worst dogs in the country just enjoy the racing
