6 month old puppy attacking older dog. what to do?

Hi everyone, I'm really in need of some advice. We got our mix breed puppy nearly 4 months ago, she's well trained (here, sit, down, paw, crawl, stay, walks on lead without pulling), she still jumps up at people and we still have some wet accidents in the house but only occasionally. Now, the problem is that we are looking after our friend's elderly westie for a couple of weeks. The puppy has been a bit jealous, pushing him around a bit, standing over him, that sort of thing but tonight she has attacked him. Luckily I was right by the door and stopped anything serious happening (he has a cut on his ear) but I'm not sure she would have stopped otherwise. I have never had a puppy before, always older rescue dogs so I'm in unchartered territory here. Is it normal for a puppy to be like this? Or should I be very worried as we have 5 and 6 year old children too?

I would be worried. My neighbor use to have a puppy who would do the same thing to other dogs. Once it was grown up the dog got more aggressive and we weren't allowed to have children near the dog unsupervised, everyone was worried it might bite a child or something. I would seek the advice of a properly qualified modern behaviourist from either COAPE or the APBC.

Your dog has not only shown the classic signs of agression, standing over staring etc, but he has gone way too far when he bit hard enough to harm.

This has to be nipped in the bud instantly.

He needs specialist help,

Specialist trainers will work with your dog and acclimatise it to be around other people, animals etc, they will be their to cure the problem head on, plus teach you how to do the same,

this will not go away on its own, it will get a lot worse, he may bite a visitor to your house he's certainly making a big rod for your back.

Keep the dogs apart as much as possible and be vigilant.
