Hi we have a lovely walk down here in Cornwall ( Gabbitas31) has posted some lovely pictures of her dogs at the lost church perranporth on here http://www.k9community.co.uk/forums/index....showtopic=71190

Yesterday we took our 5 1/2 month lurcher pup there for a walk and for her to have a mooch around off lead, knowing how excitable and over friendly she can be, jumping up people to say hello, we always call her back and put her on a lead when we see other walkers around as the area is used by all sorts of people not just dog walkers who don't always appreciate being jumped on by an over excited pup, this we did yesterday when we saw a couple approaching and as they got closer we saw they had 2 whippet sized dark coloured lurchers and a golden retriever all off lead with them, we stood to one side to allow them to pass and without any provocation from our pup or any warning given by them, the 2 lurchers suddenly attacked our pup and were then joined by the retriever. She ended up with a number of nips and pinches to her groin area and a puncture wound which has required vet treatment to her rear quarters, the only way the attack stopped is because I managed to scoop her up in my arms out of the reach of these dogs, the other owners made no attempt to recall the dogs when I was shouting for him to do so, in fact he had the gaul to actually blame us for his dogs attacking our pup, his reasoning was that she should not have been on a lead and then his dogs would not have atacked our pup, he then went on to say we should not have a dog if we didn't know how to handle one. I can only describe him as a typcal heavily tattood shaven headed thug who is always right, you know the type we've all met one at some time or another who uses aggression and intimidation to prove his point. Fortunateley we met some other dog walkers just after this happened with friendly dogs and our pups trust in other dogs was quickly restored. As I have received some bruising to my knee during this our local police would like to speak to him about his out of control dogs, so if anyone recognises the description heavy built about 5' 10" heavily tatood arms, shaven headed with 2 dark coloured (slightly brindle like) lurchers slightly larger than whippet size and a golden retriever then please let me or Devon & Cornwall police know his identity before a child gets hurt trying to protect their dog.

If this moron is reading this then I hope you are proud of yourself and your out of control dogs, it must be a pleasure to own dogs that attack young puppies for no reason.

That's a horrid situation, I get so annoyed when other dogs owners don't put their dogs on a lead when I have put mine on theirs. It used to be common practise, but not any more. A rhodesian ridgeback attacked my whippet Pye without any reason, when I complained the owner said he always goes for dogs on leads. Duh!

I hope your pup recovers and hope the thug gets a strong warning. All dogs are supposed to be under control or leashed in public places.

Thanks Bertha

Thankfully she still seems close to her normal self just a little quiet but that could be the antibiotics or the pain killers the vet prescribed. "when I complained the owner said he always goes for dogs on leads. Duh!" that's exactly the same attitude I got, as though it's ok for them to attack because of the situation. I know I haven't had a dog for a few years but as far as I know the laws haven't changed with regards to having a dog under proper control and this idiot certainly didn't have his under control, the problem is he didn't seem to care what damage his dogs were doing and was quite happy to let them carry on and to blame us for having her on a lead , I dread to think of what could have happened had my 4 year old grandaughter had hold of Ruby's lead, I was lucky to get away with just bruises to my knee because I'm on blood thinning drugs following a heart attack in January and a bite that broke the skin would have bled profusly.

Just a couple of photos of Ruby looking sorry for herself and the wound, I bet this thug/idiot is pleased with what his vicious dogs have done

Really sorry this has happened to your pup and home it doesnt upset her long term :(

I love that area and walk regularly in the winter months- I dont go much in the summer though, because of the adders ( I have had the dogs adder bitten there on 3 separate occasions .... although it is a popular area and lots of people walk there on a daily basis and never see a snake)

I am a dog walker and in the winter, and colder days might walk there 2-3 times a day- I dont recognise the dogs' descriptions. Maybe (hopefully) the owner was a holidaymaker staying at one of the local campsites, and will be gone soon.

I will keep an eye out though when I am there

Good luck to your pup- hope she heals quickly :luck:

 Thanks pippywhippet I hope your right and it is a holidy maker and will soon dissapear back home, as much as I would like to see him get his come uppance over his agressive out of control dogs I don't wish to meet him and his dogs again whilst I have my pup with me because next time she may not get off so lightly. It's nice the support I've got from the cornish members on here, I'm looking forward to meeting some at devonmaids show in Bodmin on 3rd July

thats just whats happening nowadays, ive had lots of hassle like this recently and it angers me, i broke my thumb trying to defend my dogs from a staffie, if they hurt mine i hurt theirs end of.. get better soon wee dog.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. It happened to us (although our dog wasn't hurt physically) and leaves you shaken and angry when you meet these kinds of people, and also plays over in your mind which isn't nice. If people know that their dog goes for dogs on leads, then THEIR dog should be on a lead so he can't do it!! My whippet Grover is fear aggressive since being chased down by two out of control GSDs 18 months ago. Because of this we NEVER let him off lead unless we are in a dog park by ourselves or unless he's in a whippet pack because we simply can't trust him - and yes, for some reason he also lunges for dogs on leads, perhaps because he's a fearful dog and knows he can 'win' if the other dog is handicapped by a lead. He's never done any harm to another dog because he is never in a position to.

For him to insist that your dog is off lead is ridiculous - that's like saying that because some people drive like idiots, we should all do it! Hope your lovely pup is not affected by this.

Thanks for your comments Lurcherman & Esty

Thankfully she seems back to her normal self bouncing around when she meets other people and dogs and the wound seems to be healing well. I fully agree with you that his dogs should be kept on a lead at all times at least if they are that agressive to other dogs on leads and preferably musselled. Personally I would be totally ashamed to have a dog that acted the way his did and would certainly have done some re-training to prevent it happening again and not tried to blame the other owner.

I must learn to take a little more notice of Ruby though "as you said it plays over in your mind" which it has done so many times and I've realised that She was not her normal bouncy happy pup wanting to greet these dogs as they approached instead she was sitting quietly by my side which is not normal for her so I'm guessing she sensed something with them. Thankfully this doesn't seem to have harmed her too much and she is still a happy friendly pup who is a joy to own.
