One of the posters here who owns an IG used this phrase in description of the IG.

I wondered if you people would be interested in telling me more about this, and what it is that you find makes this beautiful dog "a complex breed.'

thanks everybody. I'm fascinated to hear your replies.

we'd probably use most of the same phrases that other people do who are besotted with a particular breed!

I love mine for no other reason than their beautiful looks, the elegant way they move, their speed, and hunting spirit, their quirkey sense of humour . . . . . o:)

 . . . . . . and the fact that no two days are the same cos you can never get them to do the same thing twice, unless you DON'T want them to do it!!!!!!!

they are needy, clingey and touchey-feely, wanting to be watched and touched and cuddled all the time, except for when they are being independant, aloof and a pain in the arse!

people ask if they are friendly, I say yes, the dogs won't go near them!! if I say that they are shy and only like people in their own family, the dogs jump up and lick their noses, so I either look like I don't actually know the dogs and am just pretending they are mine, or that I have no control over them at all (as if!) :- "

yes, definately complex

couldnt agree more! It may be me that you referred to as described the breed as complex? they are often described in dog books as exactly that my quote was just a figure of speech.could go on for hours at the pleasures of being owned by an ig !

It might have been you Tanya. By the time I've clicked "reply" on here I've lost the name of the person I was just reading. ... :b

Doris, that made me laugh, you paint a vivid picture ! (w00t)

You should see blue hiding under my eldests sons quilt, he really thinks you wont notice him! daed give away is when you walk out of the room he yaps at you! He stares at the xmas tree but doesnt touch it just stares forever at it? strange boy! always nicks my slippers so i have to chase him! he is very brave going near them! they could be used in chemical warfare! I must admit he is clean during the day but not at night, so any one with small children would have to be careful there as they are not 100% reliable in the housetraining area, mine isnt a chewer with is good. He spins when waiting to go in the car and the whippet throws up! A breed full of strong character, which can bring in the pleasure and pain theory! wouldnt be without 1 now though, i had a few problems in the beginning but this site is very useful for help tips hints and ideas with many people offering their advice and opinions. This breed is closely guarded and some have strong ideas but it is because they love and feel so strongly about the breed.
