Me and Harry set off early this morning to take a look on a farm up in the Dales. The weather wasn`t great it was raining quite hard as we headed into the Dales. We had Suzie and Gypsy with us today.
When I`d arranged to go over, the farmer had said on the phone that there was a particular field he wanted us to look at. As we neared our destination the rain went off and bright skies and sunshine greeted us- perfect.
The farmer led us to the field he wanted us to look at, there was certainly plenty of sign of rabbit activity.
The dogs were busy working a reed patch and put up some nice big rabbits.
We ferreted several largish sets and were rewarded by some good bolters and only 1 dig today, but it was an easyish one at 3ft
The dogs worked hard again . making some good catches.
A lot of rabbits headed for a plantation , and I reckon we`ll be ferreting that in the winter when hopefully a hard frost will have killed back the cover. It`s perfect lamping ground here too and have been lucky enough to be granted lamping permission also once the sheep are moved off this side of the farm.
The rabbits we caught were nice big healthy rabbits , they certainly made the dogs work hard for them.
We netted a few and the dogs took the rest and we ended up with a dozen big healthy rabbits for our efforts.
The farmer was delighted with our work when we called in on our way home and his wife rewarded Harry with some chocolate which made his day
Another good day, and the first of many this season on this particular farm ;D
