Two of my friends' whippets ran off last Friday, probably lured by the scent of an elk or other game. Today, Tuesday, one of them came back to their house, a little thinner, but otherwise in fine condition. They have now tried to track his steps in the snow with a trained dog, but I have not heard from them, so I doubt they have found the other one (keep your fingers crossed he will turn up as well).

Sad as it is that they have probably lost one of their dogs, I still find it amazing that the one that has returned is in such good shape. Temperatures have fluctuated quite a bit the last few days, but during the week-end, it went down to more than 10 below zero. They are hardier than we think, that is for sure!

Certainly are!

My Ella ran off from my other half a couple of years ago, she stayed the night in the woods near by ater being hit by a motorbike, and turned up the next day being picked up by the dog warden, she'd put on about 3lb overnight (i expect through rumaging in people's bin bags) but it was winter and i was surprised how she'd managed for the night.

Hope your friend has some luck with the dog that's still missing :luck: :luck:

Hope your friends other dog returns home safely ..........but as you said they are a tough breed (and full of suprises) :luck:

they are a quite a tough breed, although not when they dont have to be, took charlie out the other morn he was'nt very happy till he warmed up with the ball a bit! still likes his coat on tho!
