Mr F broke the salt cellar in the kitchen so as a temporary measure went to get the one from the dining room. The salt and pepper were missing.

My dining room has a table, chairs and a wine rack. So not the sort of place something could easily go missing. We are totally stumped and curious! I'm not sure why I'm sharing other than the vague hope someone says 'oh that happened to me and we found them in [insert place of choice]'!

I'm assuming the salt & pepper pots were missing, not just that they were mysteriously empty? Where would they normally live - do you tend to put them away, or leave them on the table?

How long since they were last definitely there? Any visitors since then, who might have 'helpfully' tidied them away for you? Are they particularly desirable? What are they made of? And can Timber get onto the table?

It's the pots themselves, they normally live on the table. It's not a room we use often and my guess is the last guests must have helped us clear up and have put them away somewhere - I just need to work out where. Embarrassingly I can't remember when or who we entertained!

Hmmm, if I'd helped clear away... if there was a tablecloth to be removed I might have put them on the windowsill? Otherwise, on the kitchen worktop, but you'd have found them there. Is there any way they could have got bundled up with bin/recycling stuff and disposed of? (I've done that with credit cards and important paperwork before now, and I suspect some plastic containers have ended up in the recycling:oops:)

There's one surefire way to find them - buy a new pair, then the originals will turn up almost straight away.

Good advice from @JudyN
Buy another pair and the originals are bound to turn up .
Then you will have some spares.

I think that's what we will have to do!

I’d check the refrigerator... if they are there - you’ll have them back. If not - you will rest assured you are still sane :)

Still sane ...

Yes, actually mine is like that too.
And then it's my fault for instantly finding it or knowing just where to look :rolleyes:o_O

It's always my fault when it can't be found... But then, it probably is my fault as I'm a tidy-upper and thrower-outer and I can get carried away at times. OH would rather leave everything in plain sight, all over the damn place, and is a hoarder. Or as DS2 puts it, an 'archiver'...

My solution, which wont help you, would have been to simply ask my wife.
Ah yes, the difference between a 'man look' and a 'woman look' *dons tin helmet and slinks off to do some equalities training* !

@excuseme yes I was married for nearly 40 years and have to admit she spent most of them failing to get me to put things away properly. But Folly my Whippet succeeded in a short time in the endeavour because if I didn't as soon as my eyes were off it she grabbed it then ran round like a loon with it.

Yeah, this evil puppy here finds, steals and destroys everything left within his reach too. But for some reason this doesn’t translate into things being put away properly ... things are just put away somewhere, and then nothing can be found when you need it. Very frustrating.

But were the salt and pepper ever seen again?o_O (There's a traditional German household spirit believed to go around stealing small objects...can't remember the name of it...appears to have been disappeared from my memory banks.)

We may have brought a spirit back from our recent trip to Germany! At the moment thats the most likely explanation we have.

That's it! Kobolds! Dankeschon...back on the shelf in my brain again.
