Well what a fab turnout, thanks to everyone who travelled we had 59 non ped racers & 1 heat of the pedigree's, it was by far the best turn-out for a North West open for a very long time. A few comments (a couple about the plain wooden floors not being rubber - if we changed this i'm sure someone would complain about that - next time we plan on having rubber mats near the traps & if racers want them in they can have them in) but considering it was our first open & some things can be changed for next time we didn't do too bad (we're very open in saying the track is no bowling green & we don't mind a bit of constructive criticism), the scales went down a bit later than planned to allow for the people who got lost, racing started at 1.15pm & finished at 5pm, we were absolutely chuffed to bits with the quality of the dogs - some really top class animals!!

Big well done to Peter & Show Three who broke the track record of 8.24 set by Hobgoblin 2 years ago which now stands at 8.20 - WELL DONE!!

Thanks to the kind offers of help & big well done to Bill Grass & Graham Cooper the trap & luremen, also the 2 lure kids who never complained all day & were thrilled with their £20 (one bless her, offered it back!!) & the photographer who did a great job.

The committe would like to express their thanks to:

Astley & Tyldesley Miners Welfare who are always very supportive & sponsored the two main finals

Charles Fanous of Premarket who donated prizes of over £90 to the two finalists

and to all group, weight class sponsors & raffles donations.

Quite a bit of interest from the locals, also people looking to get back into the sport & the pedi convert who i believe is on the look out for a decent bred pup, plus people who have realised this club is closer than they thought for club racing.

All times back to scratch

I cannot believe what a day we have had :D :p :) . we dragged out some of the gin pit demics just incase no-one showed up ( esp with 2 other opens on) and all i can say is that some excellent dogs turned out!!!!!!!!. lots of locals watched and the club has probably gained some new members as well :D

we had 59 dogs, and considering that the club is a bit new to holding opens it all went great........big thanks to everyone who helped....esp bill grass on traps, graham on lure and of course the lure kids who i dont think even wanted paying.

Thanks to everyone for there encouragement to both me and vicky about the open, they were a great bunch of people who attended and i have had a really good day.

thanks everyone.......hopefully we'll get the same support at septembers IRG open

what a great open it was a really good day out, i thouroghly enjoyed myself and to top it all tig ran well, it was a really well run open and a huge efforet was made with the prizes and the sponsors, and the members were all very wecoming i would willingly return and recomend it to anybody :D :D :p :p

well done to all the organisers and gin pit members for a great open :D

Just got this lovely pm from one of the sponsors Brian Garnham

onceracedatpreston  - what a day,you should all be proud of yourselves for putting together a cracking meeting. Thanks i did enjoy the day,and was really impressed by Branca and Yell,in fact all the whippets running today seem to be really flying.........i spoke to a lovely elderly couple who like me had raced whippets before and came along "just for a look",by the end of the racing there was talk of them getting a pup....even my little lad was begging me to get him a whippet! Thanks for putting on a belting event, well done to your club.

Congrats to all involved and all the winners and losers (there's no sport without good losers). Good to hear others are interested in returning to the sport...

"THE GEORGE HARTLEY MEMORIAL TROPHY"

This club really deserves to do well , after all the hard work the commitee put in getting sponsers etc. The open went like clockwork without a hitch , if all opens were like this a lot more people would be encouraged to join the sport. It was a really enjoyable day & i wouldnt hesitate to go again. Well done to V icky & Michelle & all the other club members.{George would be proud of you}

The photographer has sent me his piccies this afternoon, they really are brilliant some really good action shots, he managed to get a pic of most races!

I will try & get them scanned in tomorrow - in the meantime if anyone wants one pm me your address & i will post them out!!!

Just saw this post. A big well done to tigger and jade and ow yer scotty.

ha ha no seriously well to you all. :D

See Vicky and Michelle and the rest of your committee, there isnt any magic formula for a good open, its all down to hard work and planning on your part, and with you all pulling together it made for a very good open, everything was with you and all the racers that came were willing it to be a good event, and that is what you had. I am sure that there will be many more opens for you to put on, thats the pay off for being successful. wish you, your club, and your area, many more opens in this vain.

Yours John M
