I just wondered if anyone else is irritated by the absence of critiques following shows. I appreciate that if you want to you can contact the KC and they will contact the judge etc but is it not just plain good manners that when people spend their hard earned money entering shows etc the least the judge can do is write a critique. I consider myself a critique anorak and read every critique in the dog papers (for most breeds ) but I think exhibitors deserve a little consideration.

Rant over, and a huge thanks to those who send their critiques in, now you know at least one person reads them.

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

how are your two?

most judges do.... but Dog World seems to take ages to print show results!

Take for instance Windsor Champ show, they were still printing results just a few months ago.... do not know why they do not print them all in one go, perhaps it is judges holding the result process up? but they do get printed eventually... what show have you not had results for?

see you at the club soon with my new baby!!!! :- "

i know judges do not get paid and every exibitor is very thankfull to these people who do not get paid and often have busy lifestyles . i know it can take ages to sort all the citiques out but i think that all critiques should be in within say 2 weeks after a show and all the results published at the same time .

sometimes it is the papers fault too for taking ages printing them (w00t)

I couldn't agree more Jenny, I appreciate that many things can crop up to delay a critique, it's the ones that never do one at all that really get me - it is always the ones that you have a really good result at too!!!! Riva's BPIS judge never did one and almost twelve months ago Riva was BPIB and PG3 and Fern BOB and G1 in really good company, the whippet judge did a lovely write up but not a word from the Group / BIS judge, very annoying.

I know exactly what you mean , and why should YOU have to get in t ouch with the KC , Ive loads of wins that have never been in . One is when India won best in show and Best Puppy in show

I sent my critique in a couple of weeks after the show o:) Our Dogs printed it last week :D and Dog World have only just got round to putting it in this week

For those who dont get the dog papers and those of you `over seas ` heres a copy

I have found, with compiling the South Yorkshire Whippet Club Results Book, which contains all the AVAILABLE Ch show critiques that I can find for the current showing year THAT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE (I started to write that there SEEMS to be a difference between OD & DW but that is wrong there IS a difference) in that some critiques get published in one and not the other. I dont know if it is the 'judges' or the 'papers' that are selective. An example of two of this years that have NOT appeared in OD but were in DW are Ferelith Somerfield's and Andrew Brace's whether this is that they both write for DW i dont know but it is odd!!

Of course some CC awarding judges regularly seem to forget to write a critique, with the SYWC Results book printing them each year it will become clear who the 'regular offenders' are.

I do ask the secretary's of the breed clubs if they would ask their judges to send a critique to me when one is sent to OD & DW. So far this year only a couple of critiques have appeared directly from the judges (other than the judges from the SYWC committee who do send me a copy when they judge and those who judged the SYWC show).

JAX has been very helpful over the years in supplying some of the critiques I am missing which she gleans from DW. Thanx Jax :huggles:

I do find the other difference is that Our Dogs will print them pretty much immediately. I will find critiques by the same judge for the same show come out WEEKS earlier in OD than in DW. And I've also known DW to 'edit' critiques as well which has completely changed the meaning. If I'd not seen the OD version I'd not have realised what the judge was actually saying was a compliment! I've seen this on a number of occasions, not just about my dogs, but others as well.

whenever ive been asked to judge ive always looked on it as a priviledge and an honour to be asked and i regard writing my critique as much a part of the judging assignment as turning up to be at the show. ;) its really annoying when a judge doesnt write a critique as i always think its when youve had a really good win that they dont bother!

Sometimes it is not the judges fault - Zephyr got RBIS at South West Whippet in February and the judge emailed and sent hard copy of her critique to both papers within a week, and nine months later - still no critique!! :(

It is so frustrating when you scan the papers every week for ages and can't find it, I quite agree, Jenny. :(

Just a question - I understand that it is in a judges contract (Champ Shows only?) to provide a critique. What happens if they don't provide one or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

I judged Whippets and for my sins Junior Handling at Reading open show yesterday and have emailed my critique to the dog papers today. I wonder how long it will take to be printed.

:( This weeked I've switched papers from DW to OD although it's now too late to catch up with all my summer critiques that DW failed to print. They ignored Zoomies RBIS win in May and.. unforgiveably.. ignored Scotland's BIGGEST open show, the Dundee Premier Show, where Zoomie went BIS... and their own photographer was there!!!! I'm pretty disgusted about the Dundee show - no mention of the BIS or Group winners and only the results of a couple of breeds!!! And that was back in June

I'm currently writing a letter of complaint to DW actually. I went to around 10/11 Scottish open shows this summer and only two critiques have appeared in DW.

Shoddy - and I'm getting the strong feeling they're not interested in anything north of the Scottish Centrals... Highlands and Grampian can forget seeing anything!

The only critiques I have ever had for William are for champ shows .Even when the judge has written one at open shows because he has to go in NSC hound they don't bother.

At one show the judge did several other breeds plus the AV classes and BIS all the other critigues have been in but not William's. OK he won because he was the only one in his class but she could have with held if she didn't like him but she obviosly couldn't find anything suitable to say about him :(
