advice needed please- came home today to find our sky acting very strange and timid- she had been sick twice in the living room and twice in our daughters bedroom- it was very runny very brown and smelled of diarrhoea- she has been off her food all day and hasnt drank much either, which is not like her as she is a lttle munch monster!- then about an hour ago she has been sick again and it is yellow and frothy. im at an interview in the morning, which will last a few hours so ill be able to take her to the vets after this, but im worried in case she needs to go before?- do i leave her in the kitchen tonight or bring her in with me- i also have a little blue boy, and he is fine, eating drinking etc, should i seperate them?? please advise x it is very troubling for me as ive never seen her ill before x

Can you phone your vet and get some advice? Mine have a 24 hour service and they will help to decide whether something is urgent or not. It does sound worrying, hope she gets over it quickly.

sadly our vets closes at 5.30, we have tryed ringing around but no luck... shes making some very strange noises as well

i had a dog that had the same thing happening to him and i rang the vet to tell them what was happening and they said it was just a little tummy bug that they pick up now and again and not to worry and i just gave mine a couple of slices of toast and a full mug off tea with one suger in it to settle the stomach after him throwing up allday. and the next morning he was fine. they said it should only last 48 hours. the colour is scary looking but it sounds to me she has a wee virus. i would keep her in the kitchen 2nite just incase shes sick again. and i would keep the little blue dog away from her for the nite dogs have a habit mopping up after other bitchs to keep them clean. :x

i hope the wee dog gets better soon :(

Hope she feels better soon...I would change your vet if they have no 24 hour service.

Oh, poor wee girlie :(

The yellow froth indicates that her stomach is empty and she is now just sicking up bile.

Keep her well hydrated, if you have to syringe water gently into her mouth then that is what you must do. Also keep her warm, any form of illness will drain her ability to keep herself warm and things will become worse.

Don't offer her any food right now. She will only sick it up anyway. If it is just a bug, she will show signs of wanting to eat again when the worst is past.

Has she had access to anything dead recently that she might have eaten? I say this because there is a possibility of poison, either eaten from where it has been laid as bait or eaten whilst consuming a poisoned rat or suchlike.

Most vets offer a 24 hour emergency service with a vet being on call for such cases. If your practice doesn't do this, then I think it's time to change vets! Depending on what area you are in, I'm sure there are other K9 members who could recommend a vet

You say she is making strange noises? What sort of noises are they .......... whines? groans? coughs?

Hope this is of some use, if you can get in touch with your emergency vet then it makes sense to do so, good luck :luck: :luck: :luck:

I think if it were me I would probably be ringing other vets in the area to see which of them does have an emergency service and getting some advice. It might just be a bug but if it did turn out to be poison waiting till the morning wouldn't be a great idea.

THEN I WOULD CHANGE YOUR VET :( one that doesnt offer a 24hr emergency service is no use to man or beast hope your dog is feeling better

As the others have said it is no good your vet not having an emergency 24hr service. I would change vets as well :- Usually if they don't do an out of hours on call service they at least pass you over to a 24hour emergency service such as e-vets or vets now. Hope your dog is on the mend and feeling a lot better :luck: :luck: :luck: :huggles:

Has anything come out the other end?

If your pretty sure your dogs vomited faeces and it definately hasn't eaten any poo then you could be dealing with an emergency situation. However I'd suspect this is extremely unlikely especially as bile is being vomited secondary.

It's far more likely that the dog has a minor stomach bug that's unpleasant but will probably resolve on it's own. However, check your dog is not dehydrated - see skin turgor test here> http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.p...=1&EVetID=0

if this is severe or your dog is showing any signs of distress, is hunched up crying or has a distended abdomen then again contact an emergency vet.

As has been advised if your dog is generally quiet and a bit off colour try and encourage them to drink. I personally prefer adding either an electrolyte for dogs or diorhylite to their water to get them recovering asap.

Others might disagree - but, when I want to make sure that my dog drinks plenty (dehydration due to sickness, sun etc) I always put a little milk with her water. She thinks this is a real treat and it starts her drinking when plain water doesn't work. There's probably some reason why milk should not be given to dogs, but it seems to work well for us and when she's been ill this generally brings about a fairly immediate improvement!

BTW - any news on this sick doggy? Probably just a little bug - here's hoping!

When my white dog Kes did this and his vomit was brown and smelly, he had a blockage and ended up having emergency surgery. Don't wait too long before you get to the vet.
