I'll soon be taking my 10 month old cockapoo on an 8 hour ferry journey. This will have to be spent in an on board kennel. I'm worried in case he becomes traumatised as he is not even used to travelling in a car and he will be alone for most of the trip. An online search suggests using Benadryl as a means of calming him down. Apparently it is fairly safe and routinely prescribed by vets. Has anybody any experience of this or suggestions for an alternative?

If you want a sedative for your dog, please ask your vet for one. Dogs metabolise drugs differently from humans so you can't just safely divide the dose of a human drug according to your dog's weight.

My pooch just spent three weeks on a cargo boat without us being there but with crew taking her for walks on the deck. She was anxious I think and possibly didn't enjoy it, but all advice was to not give any sedatives. Defo ask a vet I think as suggested above
