:b im a failyer i know :- " well done you thou :* yeh i give em veg and all but usually cook it althou ollie prefers it raw  just wondered if it was good for him :)

I think if it is green it is poisioness, otherwise I think its ok - not 100% sure though

I heard on here that raw potatoes were poisonous, but i'm not 100% sure, my dog loves raw carrot especially baby carrots, they serve as a great treat as they are very healthy, don't contain fat and clean teeth. And good for eyes

 omg how much of a bad mummy am i it says potatoe ...quote Contain oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems. This is more of a problem in livestock :( better not give him anymor just in case

i think its leaves and stems(green parts)of the potato plant that are toxic.i dont think the actual veg is.

I'd always heard that raw potato was poisonous to humans, (I think it is related to deadly night shade  ), and cooking rendered it harmless. :))

Mine like chips (I don't feed them this, they pull my arm off on the lead if they smell any that have been dropped (w00t) ), and mash is popular with all of them  . They have never attempted to eat them raw tho :luck: .

I'd be a bit cautious, until someone digs up the facts re. the supposed toxicity of the raw spud.

I've fed my Iggy raw potatoes, potato skin, carrot, pear, apple and tangerine to name a few.

His favourite is carrot, followed by the spuds :D

I wouldn't think anything organic would do any harm

No it is not the raw potato, but sprouted and/or green potato that develops the toxin. Once it is there cooking will not make it harmless, but adult person would have to eat about 2kg in one sitting doing themself harm. Of-course, children would need less, but has anybody heard of somebody who died from potato poisoning???

I've always heard that raw is poisonous and cooked is fine (potato wise, that is).

Cooked potatoes cannot turn green or produce solanine because cooking destroys the enzyme mechanism required for its production; however, any chlorophyll and solanine produced before cooking will remain after cooking. :) A good guide is "if the potato tastes bitter, don't eat it."

If the potatoes are safe enough for your kids, they are safe for the dogs.

Solanaceae (nightshades) family includes potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.), eggplant (Solanum melongena L.), tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.), and peppers (Capsicum sp.) .

I've never given my lot raw potatoe, but if there is any mash left over, they have that. They always have a bit of roast, meat + veg,but not roast potatoes as they usually bring that back up for some reason, even if its well mash.
