ALVA

**UPDATED: APRIL 2013**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Alva would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home.

Key Points: Affectionate, enjoys people, inquisitive, loves walks, travels well, good with other dogs her size.

This beautiful brindle girl is Alva. She is a 3 year old greyhound girl who finished racing in Ireland and is now looking for a loving family to call her own. She is in very good physical condition, and has a really beautiful coat. Alva is quite petite for a greyhound, with a slender build. She has a beautifully intelligent face, bright eyes and lovely ‘pop-up’ ears.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Friendly, affectionate but not demanding, gentle, quiet, laid back, inquisitive.

Alva has spent the last few weeks settling in to our kennels and getting to know the staff. She has shown herself to be an affectionate, friendly little lady who loves a bit of love and TLC. She’s also bright as a button and likes being out and about, seeing the world. She is quite laid back in herself and doesn’t get overexcited. She really enjoys human company, though is obviously not used to getting so much and so is currently learning how to ask for more attention. This shouldn’t take too long at all! Alva is a lovely, perky little lady who will do very well in a home setting once given that chance.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Not yet in a home environment.

Alva has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Good with other dogs, laid back but friendly, not cat suitable.

Alva is well behaved with the other greyhounds in the kennels. She likes canine company, is quite social and has a playful side just waiting to show itself more. She has not been tested with small dogs yet but this is being done very soon. She is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks well after initial excitement, curious, social, good in car, ok with noisy situations.

Little Alva walks well on the lead after the initial excitement of the walk time has worn off. This is likely to settle even more once she’s in a home and getting lots of interaction and exercise, and also gets used to seeing the world around her. She sadly hasn’t seen a whole lot yet due to spending her first 3 years in the same racing kennels. Like most greyhounds, Alva is not extremely active and will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area a couple times a week. She travels well in the car and is ok with busy traffic.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~

Alva is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Alva is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Alva, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .

Thank you.

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:
