OK, so I've been thinking. This foster puppy is driving me nuts. I love lazy lurchers - I can't be doing with these manic bouncy things some people mistakenly call 'dogs'. It's definitely some sort of zebedee-alike.

We're managing (just) but I'm still awaiting the day a new home crops up with anxious er ... erm ... desperation, to be honest!

BUT having managed (just) to cope with a (demanding) third dog, I'm now thinking mmmmmmmm if the third dog was an older, more sedate, say, lurcher, that'd be fine.

So, when (please, please) The Thing leaves us, would it be BAD to take on a permanent dog in its place? Or would that make me a bad person for not keeping the satanpuppy? :- "

Actually, you are a star for looking after a pup that you wouldn't have chosen for yourself. When he/she goes to a great home, I think a reward of a Whippet or Lurcher would be most appropiate

No, not at ALL, ILKC. Believe it or not, there are people out there actively seeking satanpuppies just like yours, I don't know why either. The right home is out there somewhere, and he will probably be a lot happier in a home that likes drool, mud, constant barking at passers-by and arm-wrenching. I know some people take labby types on in ignorance of what they're actually like, but amazingly many people seem to genuinely love this sort of dog.

If our whippet is anything to go by (his forced companionship with one hasn't exactly resulted in friendship), your lurchers would probably prefer one of their own kind too.

Meanwhile there are lots of deserving, well-behaved, sweet-natured greyhounds just waiting for the right home too, I'd have had one too but we live in a doll's house, even the whippet seems big.

There isn't a 'labrador community' you can post on, is there?

My two just look upon it with disgust. Maisie thinks it's quite fun to have something vaguely fast to chase round the garden (Austin's so slow he just trips her up) but when indoors she attempts to rip its face off if it comes within 3 yards of her bed. Austin is sick and tired of being raped and having even the most undesirable, boring toys stolen from him. He much preferred it when he got to have a mad minute every night, when Maisie allowed him to hump her head.

He's on a lab forum, and dogpages, and I have made new posters to put up at work. I'd like him to go locally so I can snoop out the prospective new owners before handing him over! I don't want him myself, but I do hope he goes to a good home who will continue the clicking and have patience with his quirks ...! :b

There is nothing more exhausting than a manic puppy. I know I have Italian Greyhounds after all and that is why when people phone up asking about Iggies I get them to visit because a flying loony is not what some people can cope with or really want.

I remember some friends visiting and the iggies were at their most hypo and they asked me how I coped with them as they flew round the room bouncing off the walls :- " I didnt know what they meant as I have switched off to them. As I work from home a lot and get quite engrossed in what Im doing I often dont notice that they have dismembered half a tree and dragged it in to the middle of the sitting room.

My boss complained the other day he never gets any work done when he comes to my house. I told him to stop watching what the dogs were doing and he would  Mind you he has dalmations and I thought they were pretty mad but says mine are worse ;)

I agree that youve done a marvellous job so far, don't forget you didn't go out and choose this puppy you are just doing a good deed, I think to have a lab it needs someone with loads of time to spend training because they seem to stay young and silly for ages, its a different story if you love the breed and can devote lots of time to that,I don't think there's any question why you shouldn't get a another dog of your own choice

You really need some siamese cats to make the bedlam complete Jan! They can bounce off the ceilings as well as the walls! We had a client meeting at home a few weeks back and couldn't get anything done with the cat being ultra naughty for their benefit.

Our labby-owning friend can't understand how we put up whippets  Okay, he pinches food and won't sit/stay for 10 minutes without budging but he hasn't wrecked the car/house/garden/neighbours dogs either. She can't get the car MOTed by a normal garage any longer as the lab just destroys seat belts every time she renews them.

Goodluck ILKC, you deserve a medal!

I can't believe you feel guilty about it woman.

You have taken on and cared for a dog that no-one else would and are sticking it out until he gets a proper home. I presume you are paying to feed him etc out of your own pocket too. You deserve a medal woman!

Good luck with finding him a new home - SOON. :luck:

Whilst bumping him on dog pages you can be eyeing up potential 3rd dogs...... :- "

I know a lovely laid beck greyhound/lurcher.... :- "

Can relate to this my Woody went threw 3 seat belts and many cheap dog guards i bought to try and prevent him getting to the seatbelts. My poor ex hubby was NOT impressed having to spend so many days repairing our car from teeth marks, maybe that's why he buggered off with a woman without dogs... So i had to spend over £100 and get a good tailgate guard. Thankfully he has stopped being a git in the car, unless we go racing when thankfully a muzzle is adequate to stop him wrecking the car.

Sorry you still have the mad dog, sure a good home will turn up soon :luck:

Gosh, so there are Satan whippets too! Ours only eats loo roll! I can recommend a garage in Oxford that looks the other way when they're MOTing your seatbelts  (probably only if you are a helpless little old lady though!)
