Our AWC National Specialty is being held this year in beautiful Eugene, Oregon. It's not the easiest place to get to, though.

I was wondering if any of the Whippet folk from outside the USA are planning to attend, so I can look for you and say hello.

Usually we get a few people from Scandinavia, Australia, and Europe, and sometimes have visitors from South America and the UK. Occasionally, even Japan. I'm thinking with it being a West Coast National we'll have more Aussies than Europeans this year.

So, if you're planning to attend, I'd love to know!

If not, Scudder and I will try to keep K9 posted on the main developments throughout the week. It starts April 19th with the lure coursing, and continues until the following Saturday, when our ultimate winner is crowned.

No we wont be over but would dearly love to...ah well we can but dream!! :D

Looking forward to your updates on it.

Scudder, me, and another friend are flying five or six dogs all the way across the country to attend this, then when we land, we rent a van and drive two more hours.

The reason it might be five, not six, is that if my champion bitch comes in season (she's due any second now), she won't be making the trip. Eight days in the motel room with a bitch in heat and my horndog half-Aussie boy isn't my idea of a nice vacation.

God I wish!!!! :(

Coming over for the lure coursing and racing with our dogs would be a dream come true Ill let you know if we win the lottery before a week on Sat!!!! (w00t)

Have a fantastic time and let us know whats happening with some pics if possible

Oy...the coordination of 3 people and 6 dogs flying from cities 6 hours apart on DIFFERENT airlines but still arriving within minutes of each other was a feat in itself! :sweating: :sweating:

I'm looking forward to it. We have our nice little international contingent entered...Inga will be in open :- " She's our little half Bluestreak girl and Bonzer (Am. Ch. Surrey Hill's Galafrey FCh ARX) will be in racing and coursing classes. He's out of the Australian import Am/Aus Ch. Byerley Savile Row.

Karen has a real brawl going on with two hotly contested and debated brothers from her last litter going head to head in the puppy Futurity. I co-own Butters with Karen and our traveling mate Pat co-owns his brother Kohl with Karen. They are both superb examples of the breed, but very different styles. Its going to be fun!

I hope to see more folks in Atlanta in 2009! Cross your fingers, we'll have some Delta puppies to show off there!

Kristen

GOOD LUCK KAREN., we will watch the results with interest.

The airlines will find some way to screw it up. They always do.

But at least we have the whole day on Saturday to find each other, find our dogs, get the van, and find our luggage. :teehee:

When I came back from San Francisco a couple years ago, my bags ended up going to Iceland (literally!!!). I'm a pretty horrible passenger when dogs are flying. I refuse to get on the plane until I see them physically loaded on the plane. Even if it means I'm the last person to board. I try to be nice about it as best I can. I also make sure the flight attendants tell the cockpit that there are dogs underneath the plane.

Hopefully the car rental company remembers they need to bring the van round to the terminal because I will be there by myself and TSA won't be happy if I leave 2 kennels and 2 bags unattended! :teehee:

I'm shipping a box to the hotel ahead of me with dog bowls, clean bedding, anything liquid (grooming supplies) and also the dogs medications. If TSA sees that stuff on Xray, your bags automatically get pulled for inspection which means it won't show up on time.

Less than 2 weeks to go! (w00t) (w00t) (w00t)

Sounds like a fantastic week....Just wish :- "

Look forward to hearing about it.

:luck: :luck: to all your whippets.

Molly Rule-Steele and Jo Kramer will be in California....

Quote....

I am off to judge Whippets and Afghans in the USA at Western Hound Assn in CA this week. Jo Kramer will be my travelling companion, and we will be away just over 2 weeks. So California had better batten down the hatches!!!!.

Wonder if they're popping off to Oregon for a look as well ....

no I am not going this year.

has been there at the national at Dallas and Boston, and if I remember well my friend and I were sitting the whole week long just near to you seaspot ...

Do you remember the belgian girls looking how Bo judged...

Did you enjoy your week? I met a LOT of people from overseas in Boston. It was a very popular National for our overseas fancier friends.

A photo would probably refresh my memory. I wish I could afford to do more travel to see big Whippet shows overseas.

Well, it seems like not many will be coming to Eugene. It's a tough travel spot, to be sure. I wish I could afford the International Congress.

Maybe next year in Atlanta we can have a special lunch get-together for members of K9 who travel there.

I did ask one of Molly's friends in the USA if Molly was staying on for the National, and she said no.

For us Aussies, there's a large contingent going to Sweden for the World Show, Whippet Congress and Sighthound Show. Unfortunately, unless we rob a bank (and get away with it :- " ) two overseas trips within a short space of time is not on the cards.

Enjoy the show.

me at the left, my belgian friend Dolores (Sandline whippets), and near to her Nancy Doucette (owner of Ch Bohem Just in Time, Justin, living in the USA), and you have probably heard of her :)

this was at the banquet...

And in the centre one table back looking at the camera - Lisa (me) from Australia o:) . I had a great time at the Boston National - probably helped by being able to show Electra and some of her kids with Phoebe Booth  .

If I get to go anywhere this year it will be Sweden, or Gettysburg in September for the Ridgeback National (one of my pups will be there), pity because I'd love to see that part of the world.

Hope you all have a great time, think we should put out a "storm warning" on the route across from Connecticut - "Phoebe is coming".

Lisa
