Karen is still sleeping. She had a long day yesterday. We have a few brags from the National already!

On Sunday, we went to the lure coursing field trial. Bonzer, our half-Aussie Sav son Ch. Surrey Hill's Galafrey, was 3rd in his flight. His group included two International Invitational (our coursing National) winners and he tied with one and beat another in his runs. He ended up High Score AKC Bench Champion at the end of the day! What a great way to start the week. Karen's own Maura, (Am./Can. Ch. Surrey Hill Glenmoragnie) was NBQ (5th) in her flight, also taking home a coveted National plate and rosette.

The day started with snow, and ended with cold rain and wind. I hope those of you coming to Atlanta next year will enjoy warmer and sunnier weather! It's so far been cold and rainy all week, but the hotel is nice and the hospitality is even nicer.

The show started with some exciting wins in the puppy Futurity. Butters (Surrey Hill's Golden Boy) won his 12-14 class and the big surprise (much to Karen's delight!) was the win of his little sister Vendome (Diablesse Vendome Says Surrey Hill) in her competitive 12-14 month puppy class.

The boys from the last Pea litter got a good look in the Dog classes. Butters won his 12-18 class and looked stunning. His brother Kohl (Surrey Hill's White Vienna) made the first cut in a very competitive and large Bred by Exhibitor class. Butters and Karen looked GREAT in Winners Dog, but our class win was as far as we'd go for the night.

Bitches start today. We won't show until tomorrow when English mabel's daughter Inga shows in the Open class.

You can keep up with all the results on the AWC site.

Not to leave out the BIG winners....as East Coasters, we were delighted with the success of dogs from our side of the USA in the ring. The Futurity was won by a bitch who is black with white trim, bred by Suzanne Hughes, DVM in North Carolina--Snow Hill's Calliope. WD went to at northeastern dog handled by Ivy Potts' daughter, Lesley Potts--C.Square's Brother Knuckles. WD means Best Male in the Classes.

Well, our little half Bluestreak Inga just finished showing and she "made the cut". While she wasn't in the placements, she showed very well and it was exciting to make the cut with such a lovely line-up and in such a large class. Inga is just a few days too old for the 12-18 month classes, so she looked very immature in the ring.

There was a lot of catalog diving to see who the solid blue brindle was and I'm glad to say we made some new ringside fans who were excited to see such a gorgeous body and flawless movement.

Atlanta in 2009 will be better for her as she will be mature enough to show in the open classes.

Hi--Karen Lee (seaspot_run) here posting on Scudder's account--I've been taking photos but don't have a camera cord to download, so I will need to get home to expand this thread.

I'm happy to report from our brags today that along with Inga making the cut, that our half-Aussie 'Bonzer' won the Lure Coursing Dogs class. Bonzer is a show champion and a straight racing champion as well.

Tonight was a really interesting night--we were all winding down from the show and who should show up in our lobby but past President of the USA--Bill Clinton, in town to campaign for his wife who is running.

Now, this is sure something you don't see every day at a dog show. I took his photo with a few Whippets. He was not opposed to kissing and petting some Whippets for votes.

:teehee:

Congrats Karen,Kirsten & the ever lovely Butters! (He looks stunning on the front of the WW mag btw & I loved the interview Karen, very informative indeed!) Looking forward to those pics.

Also Congrats to Lesley...ever the professional,Well Done!

Congrats on all your wonderful successes

We are home and I have a lot of interesting photos to upload. But that will probably have to wait until tomorrow.

I'm going to put them on this thread, even though they are talking about our winners on the USA/UK thread. It will be more about the experience of the National than about the winners. Their photos are available multiple places.

Complete coverage can be found on the Whippetview site, including the "Daily Whippet" for each day with photos and interviews of the owners of the top winners of the previous day's events. I did the Vet Sweeps winner interview.

So, check back maybe tomorrow and I'll have a lot of stuff up and maybe Kristen will as well.

It was a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong week. -_- I'm still kind of fried. And I have to go get my pregnant bitch back who is due to whelp in three days. The co-breeder took her while I was gone.

Thanks for the comment on the interview. I tried to give good value. ;) They did ask me a question about US vs. UK type. I was tempted to just link the 60-page thread, but I decided to give a brief answer.

o:)

Kristen's cover boy, Butters, had a fine showing at the National.

Welcome back Karen, looking forward to your photos and summary, but I've just got to ask if you met Bill Clinton?

Jenny

I met him and I shook his hand and I listened to his whole 2 hour speech/conversation and I even got close enough to take a photo with me, and also a few other photos which I will share here. My camera batteries went dead on the last day and I have to go out and get some more, then I can download the photos.

This was really a cool and exciting thing. For people like me, who actually had voted for him back in the 90's, it was pretty exciting but even the people who didn't vote for him or even hated him when he was Prez were excited to see a former POTUS close up. The man was clearly dead on his feet, but he talked to about 45-50 half-sozzled Whippet people for TWO HOURS and answered every question. It was quite an impressive performance and completely impromptu. He was headed up to his hotel room to crash, but when people gathered around him in the lobby and someone asked him about the gas prices, he just stopped and launched off on a detailed policy speech about oil prices and alternative and green fuel technologies, and it just expanded from there....he's a pretty amazing guy. Not as silver-tongued as your Mr. Blair, but for an American politician, he's really a good extemporaneous speaker.

POTUS=President Of The United States

Wow how exciting meeting a POTUS -

I got distracted by having puppies and was lazy.

I will put them up tomorrrow--it's pretty much all about my dogs but there's a bit in there about the venue and the week.
