I was very pleased to open our email today to discover that there is some progress in the dialogue between the Canadian Kennel Club and the FCI. Since January 1st 2007 FCI countries were refusing to register or accept Canadian Kennel Club registered dogs in their registers. This unfortunate restriction is now lifted which means Canadian bred dogs can now be exported to other countries, shown and registered in them without any qualification. This is good for all the dogs and breeders affected.
However the issues between CKC and FCI are not over and further discussion is required. As a consequence FCI has announced that the ban prohibiting Canadian judges from judging at FCI shows continues for the moment.
The full text of CKC's announcement today is set out below:
Progress with FCI
Friday morning March 9th:
At a general committee meeting of the FCI held in Amsterdam March 6-7th, 2007, the General Committee reviewed the sanctions placed on the CKC listed in Circular 125.
In an email dated today to CKC Chairman Dwain McLean, the Executive Director of the FCI reported on the deliberations of the General Committee.
This is the information received in response to our query:
The General Committee indeed discussed all your letters and was very thankful for this very interesting information.
The decision made was as follows:
The sanction about the pedigree is lifted with immediate and retro-active effect. No ban applies any more no matter when the pedigree was issued. All pedigrees issued by the CKC between Jan 1st, 2007 and March 8th, 2007 are again accepted by the FCI members for show, breeding and registration purposes.
The sanction against the judges is maintained for the moment. The General Committee would like to meet with you at their meeting in Berlin on Oct 31 - Nov 1 so that we can discuss about how to handle this case and the other open ones.
