You have probably heard of people killing greyhounds by hitting them on the head with a hammer. Cottage Rescue in County Tipperary, Ireland is now looking after a greyhound whose injuries are thought to be the result of a failed attempt to kill her by a blow to the head; she has no other injuries apart from the headwound.

pictures of her can be seen at the Cottage Rescue website: http://www.cottagerescue.com/index_files/recentcrueltycases.htm

No ear tattoo so a prosecution is highly unlikely as the owner of the dog hasn't been identified.

Cottage Rescue is essentially a one-woman operation. Donations of any amount are welcome to help with veterinary costs.

That's is so sad, I just don't understand how anyone can behave in such a way to a living being.

I hope she recovers and finds a lovely home.

I have worked in animal rescue for nearly 20 years now and I'm really sad to say that I'm no longer shocked by this sort of thing. Saddened, appalled and disgusted, but not shocked.

My own dog had her legs broken by her previous owners- I genuinely don't understand why someone would pay £800 for a pedigree puppy and then break the pup's legs before they're 6 months old, but that's what they did.

I have given up trying to make people have a conscience when they plainly don't have one. I spend my time and energy on the animal rather than wasting most of it focusing on the excuses for human beings that do this sort of thing. The animals deserve my care- the wastes of oxygen who do this sort of thing don't.

I hope that this little girl makes a full recovery.

Cannot get my head around why anyone would ever hurt an animal... To break a puppy's legs... horrifying! I think you're right that they don't have a conscience!

Oh dear, there are some sickening instances of cruelty on the Cottage rescue website...those poor animals, thank goodness for the Angels that run rescues such as this one.
