Just wondered if anyone has any advice, noticed about an hour ago the on the inside of Harleys back legs he has red bumps with white heads on them, which have appeared since his walk this afternoon. It doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. There are a couple of these bumps on his tummy and one on his chest aswell. He did recently have an allergic reaction but the symptoms were different and his face was swollen. Have given him a piriton when I noticed it but doesn't seem to have had an effect as yet. Like i said it doesn't seem to be worrying him so will see what its like in the morning but can't help but worry......just wanted advice first otherwise I would be skint rushing him to the emergency vets everytime this happens at £100 a pop for a piriton tablet!!!!

It sounds like grass rash which happens at this time of year. The rash will become dirty looking and then will disappear. It doesnt itch but just doesnt look nice. The spots come up as pustules.

The Iggies get it something terrible but only certain whippys seem to suffer.

I agree with Jan, Kane gets the rash there and Sienna gets it on her chest but Callie and Spry don't get it at all

I just keep it clean with maybe a bit of salty water or just plain water and if it looks bad put a bit of aloe vera or lavender oil on it, it comes and goes as they run about in the woods, not a lot else to do really it doesn't seem to bother them so I don't worry too much about it anymore just one of those things I think

I think you can give dogs human piriton but please don't take my word for it someone else will know

Yeah Stan had this last week after the grass was cut - I just put some comfrey and calendula balm on it - soon calmed down, but went a bit scabby but didn't seem to bother him

Spot on, a couple of my IG's & one of my whippies get this especially if the grass has been wet.

Always take a towel & dry their tummy & legs after a run & i have found rubbing Aloe Vera gel into the skin very good as well.

It can look awful for a while but soon dissappears.

thanks everyone for your advice, yet again k9 saved me a lot of money....

beau gets the grass rash

watch out for nettles as well as this can cause a red rash

don't do what i did and panic couple of days and there fine :D

2 of mine seem to get this grass rash and I bough some Urticaria tablets from the health shop and give them 1 of these twice a day and it seems to take it down really quickly. I think you can also get Urticaria cream as well. Hope this helps.

Mine get this as well from running through long grass. I use Aloe Vera and it sorts it a treat.

Mine gets this in May if he runs through the wild flower meadow. My vet gave me a large supply of antihistamines a couple of years ago to use at this time of year, OR I just try to run him on the playing fields instead! :luck:

The story just gets longer..................... at least the vet can afford a nice holiday thanks to our little family over the last 4 days!!!!!

Harleys rash kept getting worse and bigger lumps full of pus kept appearing, which didn't look like a grass rash so took him to get it checked, appraently he has a very bad bacterial infection and is on antibiotics now for two weeks, has been taking them for 3 days and a marked improvement already.... then on Friday Joshy had his castration carried out so he's been feeling sorry for himself not able to run through the fields etc, so decided to go to my mums last night as her garden is bigger than ours and thought they could have a little play together and it all got a bit too much with the play fighting and Joshy ripped the end off harleys ear, OMG I nearly passed out, so then had to rush him to the emergency vets, and take out a remortgage, where he has stayed overnight and had stitches etc to try and save the end of his ear, my poor baby................. what an eventful and very expensive weekend we have had...........

 You have been through the wars recently,or rather the dogs have! :( :(

Poor Harley, having to deal with his bad rash and now a bit of his ear is missing,no wonder he looks sooooo miserable. Here's hoping that he heals quickly and gets back to normal :luck: :luck: and also that Joshy gets over his castration too.

Lots of cuddles to them both :huggles: :huggles:

I am surprised you have not been to the Dr or should I say vet! (w00t) for something to settle your nerves, looks like you are one of his most cherished customers
