How can I put my dog off Foxes, befor he ends up injuried ? .........He's been lucky so far with the three he has caught, but hes getting worse ........ he let the first one he ever caught go, the second fox he ever caught he did take down and now the one today he took down and killed it out right by himself  ......Thanks in advance :)

I'd be kind of pleased if one of mine took down and dispatched a fox!

Better send him over to me.

Just as long as he doesn't try it on a coyote single handed! (Or a black bear or Cougar!)

It is possible in the USA at any rate to buy "breaking scents" These are extracts of the scent glands from the animal you want to stop the dog chasing. You soak a pad attached to the collar and the dog eventually gets so sick of the smell they stop chasing that particular animal.

I know they work on scent hounds to stop them switching to deer when they are hunting legitimate quarry.

Thanks for the reply :D .......I am pleased that he sorted it so quickly (what a dog   ), but I wouldn't want it to become a habit.......He's only ever come across 3 foxes and he's got worse  .....The one he took down earlyer this year he let my little bitch finish it and just stood there snapping at it ........Now yesterday I'm not sure if he managed such a clean kill due to the fact that him and his sis were just on their way back to me after having coursed a hare over the fields when they ran into the fox, so his senses were heightened as he was so up for it.......or if he actually doe's like foxes now as he lernt what to do with the other encounters  ....................He rolls in fox shit often enough, so do you think if I left it on him it would work the same way as the pads ?? :x :p

BTW you wouldn't want him Tony as he's a 28lb weedy Whippet LOL  ......and he's called the Twit for good reason, as he spends most of his life on the injury list

Lets have some fox coursing photos!
Well I didn't have my camara with me .......but if you'd like i'll go and take a picture of the dead fox for you  ......Now where shall I post the picture ??.....on here to see how many people I could offend ?? .....or shall I privatly email you it ??

keep the dog on the lead in that area if your bothered by it. personally i think if a smallish type of dog can deal with a fox then its a game little fellow. were i live we have loads of foxes to go at and they can provide a good days sport for a whippet. if you look on marks coursing forum theres a pic of my old dog, he liked to mix it up with a fox. regards sparky

Been advised not to post a photo :- "

Thanks Sparky, but unfortunatly the foxes have all popped up in different places ....1st one was in Cornwall (the day befor their open  )....then one in a field that I have no permission for :b ......then this one I have permission for anything (apart from the pheasants) .........I'd hate to have to keep any of my dogs on a lead, and befor anyone asks.......yes they are all very obedient (normally).....Jacob just won't listen when he's been on a fox, even with me shouting and threatening him  . As for him being a game dog .....He certainly is as straight and as honest a dog you could ever wish to meet, who knows what he was bred to do (even though I don't think its ment to include fox :- " )......I've seen that picture on Marks site ....I'm Hannah from that site

i was'nt being funny, but i meant what i said. he might be that type that when he gets on he does the business. start and run him on the fox. take him out for them and see how he does.
