Hi there! I know how you are feeling. I had my gall bladder removed in 1989. But don't worry, it's a much easier op now they do keyhole surgery. I can eat anything now (and normally do!). They say the problem is hereditary, and as my mother and brother have had theirs removed, I'm sure they are right. The pain is excruciating I know. I could control it if I didn't eat fatty foods. The trouble was, I'd eat a packet of crisps and all would be ok, so then I'd push it and eat something else - it always seemed that 5 hours after eating the offending item, I would be really ill. I waited a year for my op, and as soon as I got home I had a curry! My brother seems to eat all he wants now too - so you can look forward to being pain free, and enjoying your food again.

Good luck :luck: and hope you don't have to wait too long.

My husband had gallstones and kept the pain at bay by following a really strict low fat diet. I used to have to read all the labels on his food to make sure it wasn't too fatty. It did work for him though. He had his gall bladder out a couple of years ago and can now eat anything without any trouble, although anything extra fatty might cause a bit of discomfort, but no terrible pain. Hope you can get it sorted soon - apparently it's one of the most painful things you can suffer from, including childbirth! Good luck! :luck:

 Try passing out with the pain and getting someone to rush you to the Dr. for morphine. Then the morphine caused me to stop breathing  I had to do that a couple of times and jumped the queue :- "

I finally got to see a locum GP who put me straight into the hospital at 2am and the op was done by keyhole next day. But I think there was something wrong with my liver at the same time.

I didn't fit the criteria for having them and it wasn't in my family so we still don't know why I did   I didn't eat fatty food at that time and was even underweight so goodness knows what causes them :teehee:

I really feel for you, :( :(

sorry for interupting but maybe someone can help me too?

I have a dreadful pain in my stomach/intestines it is the worse pain i have ever had ever. I cant walk, stand, its too painful to cry properly all i can do is curl up into a tiny ball and waiting for it to go off. These attacks i get last about 40 mins and come on about 10 times a day. I have times where i do not get pain for a few months, then wham! it starts. :( I have a normal appitite otherwise, but get indigestion alot.

I have been invetigated for....

Kidney stones,

gall bladder stones/infection,

IBS - this is what my doctors always fall back on! although no medication works - this is what they tell me i have when they run out of ideas

grumbling Appedix,

and now....

Ulecerative colitus???

I end up in hosptal for about a week, hooked onto the morphine button then it seem sto settle down and im ok for a bit?

Ive had MRI scans, x rays, colonoscpoys, Ct scans, you name and Im still no furthur forward in 3yrs. It worries me with our big family history of stomach cancer etc. Im only 23 but what is wrong with me???? Any suggestions? even the doctors dont know!

A friend of mine was the same Nicky, she had to wait for months to have scans and tests and then when they told she would have to wait for surgery, it almost sent her over the edge.

Each time she had a bad attack, she got someone to take her to A & E and the 3rd time, she was kept in and operated on within 3 days...

She had to be really strict about the fat content in her diet but that sometimes didn't make any difference at all.

If your in so much pain and they've told you it is def your gallbladder then I'd go down the A & E route.

I had my gallbladder removed about 4 years ago now Nicky, I was down for keyhole but the surgeon left and I ended up having to have open surgery,it was that or wait months and months and I couldn't wait any longer, to be honest was worth it

When I first got them I thought it was heartburn and would drink milk to try to settle it, that made it worse, I ended up in hospital eventually and thats where they scanned me for gallstones

I was getting to the stage where I daren't eat anything if there was a remote chance it had fat in it, for the pain it gave me,usually in the middle of the night.

I ate a lot of pasta and sauce out of a packet because it was low fat  was good for weight loss though, lost about 3stone

I can eat anything, now thats why I go to slimming club every Tuesday :b

I found Buscopan helped when I had a bad bout of pain, which the doctor gave me :huggles:

Hope you get it sorted soon I know what a nightmare it can be :luck: :huggles:

i had similar problems years ago i used to end up in A&E regularly doubled up with pain. :( this went on for 2 years and i weighed about 6 stone id lost so much weight.id had ultra sound ,scans, barium meals etc etc then one doc asked me if there were any ulcers in our family and i said yes my dads got them but ive had all the tests for ulcers and they all came back negative.well i just think youve not had the right test says he.so he sent me for the camera down the throat job,two seconds later a diagnosis, duodenal ulcers.gave me medication and ive never looked back since.sometimes its just that you havent had the right test!

thanks Kris,

interesting. I think camera down throat is next step, going back to consultant in 2 weeks...... :(

Your prob right, im just fed up now. I go through A & E all the time. They know me now!!! (w00t)

Thanks

Rosemary Conley had severe pain with gallstones and went on a low fat diet, and it was because of all the weight she lost, especially round the hips and thighs, that she invented her famous Hip and Thigh Diet - and went on to become a millionaire!! See, behind every cloud there's a silver lining! :p

Good luck to you both, Nicky and Tinker :luck: - hope you get sorted out very soon, but the A&E route is certainly a good one if you are in agony. :luck: :huggles:

I had my gall bladder removed 17 years ago ~ it was meant to keyhole surgery but ended up open surgery, had to stay in hospital for a week & minimal work on my return home which was difficult as my son was only 10 months old at the time...

I was told fatty foods & dairy products are the cause. My brother is due to go in for keyhole surgery in a couple of weeks time for gall stones, they have told him he'll be in for just for 1 night & should be able to return to work in about a week...

The pain is unbearable, you have my sympathy.. :huggles:

Hope you get the problem sorted quickly...

Very best :luck:

quote ...I found Buscopan helped

iv been given these to 10mg buscopan .they do help and usually the pain settles down one taken them although they make me feel sick instead  i'm not over weight im only 8st 3lb but i do have a fancy for fry ups ..but since i had my first bought of pain iv been really good with my fat intake but it doesnt take much to start the pain off again.i think i will have to start bugging my doctor like hell ..maybe that will do the trick

Awwwwwwwww hope you get it sorted soon love :huggles: :huggles: A friend of mine had the same, she had the op,and had no problems since :D

My doctor told me that the saying for gallstones is usually 'female, fat and forty' I was 36 but weighed more than I should, he also told me that yoyo dieting can be a cause, me also :b

The reason eating fat makes the pain is because when you eat fatty food your gallbladder (little bag) which collects bile releases it into a tube to break the fat down, but if you have gallstones which have formed in there they can also come out of the little bag and into the narrow tube and cause a blockage hence the pain, hope that makes sense :)

Hi all you fellow gallbladdery people - don't be feeling guilty now - it isn't fat that causes the stones. Like Lesley says, eating fat causes the pain because it makes the gallbladder pump the bile faster to digest the fat. So I reckon small quantities often is the answer, and avoid as much fat as possible. Even a large meal with not so much fat will require extra bile to digest it. I too was overweight, but only 29 years old. My brother was only 23, and not overweight at all.

I don't know about the rest of you who have had a cholecystectomy to give it it's posh name, but I find now that if I don't eat little amounts often, I get a burning sensation in my stomach. I put it down to the fact that when you don't have a gallbladder, there is a continuous stream of bile going straight into the stomach from the liver, as you now don't have a pouch to store it in, and if there's no food for it to work on, I presume it eats away at the stomach lining.

I know infrequent eating is sometimes given as the cause of stomach ulcers, and can be caused by the bile not having anything to digest, and so aggrevating the stomach lining.

Anyway, I think it's a good excuse, and now I don't eat big meals, I just graze all day!!

I agree with you there June I don't have a problem with what I eat, more if I don't eat if I miss meals it upsets my stomach and makes me feel sickly, so I grab a banana or something just to put in there
