Hello all,
I have a little podenco canario pup who I think is some sort of liver. He seems to be two tone though with a darker colour down his back like a thick dorsal stripe and his tail is all this darker colour as well. Just wondering if anyone could help in determining what he is?

I'd say that coat colour was blue ... sorry, I couldn't resist.

Maybe someone will have a real answer but I do love a pod picture ;)

Do you mean what the coat colour should be called? I've been doing a little googling and the answer seems to be 'depends'. It can depend on the breed, so the same shade could be called liver in one breed and chocolate in another. Genetics comes into it too - this article in Wikipedia gives the genetic background to liver but also says that liver can also be called chocolate.

Personally, I'd think of liver as being more reddish than chocolate (like a liver chestnut horse), and your pod does look reddish (though not as red as 'standard' podencos). So I'd go with liver.

I would suggest a red of some variation, but pictures don't always give a true colour.

Yeah the pics are really difficult - he seems to be a different colour in all different lights hence why I'm so indecisive of what to class him. His tail and back are definite chocolate - body colour is like.. An akhal teke horse if anyone has heard of them!
