I've recently emigrated to The Horn of Africa, Somaliland to be precise (don't ask!!) I left behind a passion for running dos that I thought could never come with me. Since I've been here I've discovered that not only does Somaliland have a small rabbit population but it is also overrun with an animal they call a "Dic Dic" It's about the size of a hare but moves like a small deer. They're everywhere and I can't drive anywhere without wishing I had access to a decent lurcher. So if anyone knows where I could get hold of a sighthound in either Kenya, Ethiopia or indeed Somaliland I'd be very grateful!! Thanks.

Why not try an Azawakh (African Greyhound)???!!!! Stunning dogs...

They certainly are stunning, but I'm guessing jackperschke would have to go almost to the other side of the continent to get one in Africa (the Sahel). I know Basenjis are classified as sighthounds in some countries, but I cannot recall just now whereabouts in Africa they're supposed to have originated from. The main purpose of the Azawakh in Africa is actually guarding livestock.

Where exactly is Somaliland? I'm looking at a map of Africa and can't seem to find it?

I'm sure that there must be Lurchers of some type in africa. I know that there are whippets in South Africa and was talking with a guy from Zimbabwe last month and he had Rhodesian RidgebackXDoberman. Not exactly a lurcher I know but I'm sure if you keep looking you will find one.

Somaliland is an inependent, although internationally unrecognised, country made up of the North Western regions of Somalia. Basically it's the top of the "7" that makes up the shape of greater Somalia.
