I was speaking to a reputable breeder friend the other weekend and he is in the process of applying for some form of license to transport his greyhounds...

apparently this will apply to ALL greyhounds and maybe other breeds as well...

anyone heard anything?

fancy being in court for taking your dogs down the park in the car??? I DONT !!

it's more than likely to do with the new animal welfare bill, from what i've heard greyhound trainers will need a liscence to transport their greyhounds more than 40 miles in any one jurney.

Diana on Flappersdream has been keeping their members up to date with DEFRA legislation.

Link to her recent post regarding Greyhound transportation.

It's also worth keeping an eye on the BWRA non-ped racing website as they are also keen to ensure their members are complying with the animal welfare bill and that all members comply with any legislation that will effect whippet racing. For example I believe it was decided in November last year to have Welfare Officers appointed so that it could be shown that the BWRA are actively demonstrating both care and responsibility when it comes to animal welfare.

This has been raised here before, and this regulation deals with transporting, as in commercial transporting. Not a person taking their own dogs somewhere in his own car. And fair enough, they need tough regulations for the dog's welfare.

Yes that was my understanding too - but they havent defined commercial so it is open to interpretation I think. If they are pets I can't see any problem, but if they are racing greys that are not pets they may be covered by the legislation.

It's not just dogs, horses, rabbits etc will all be covered.
