why worry? its very commendable they are trying to find a decent home without thinking of money if they had wanted paying no doubt someone would say that was wrong

Because some puppy farmer may snap her up.

Just what I was thinking too ,

I dont think Id `give ` a bitch away without first having her spayed anyhow , just in case

we had to give a dog away once, due to a change in circumstance, tried" free to good home" we had so many, idiots and travellers ring up,it put us off, so we kept the dog.if you do give them free to good home do as jax said get them spayed/neutered and do a home check etc (if possible)

maybe they dont have £££££££ to have her spayed carnt understand the rationale on her the number of times you see a post wanting a home for a "show dog that has be kept on but hasnt made the grade" but know one challenges that (maybe they shouldnt breed so many) having rehomed a whippet many years ago through no fault of my own i know had distressing it can be without busybodies calling to "chat"

i wasnt being a busybody i was simply concerned that the dog does not end up as a 'backyardbreeder'...

it would have been great if someone on here who was 'looking' could be put her way...there are always 'genuine' people looking for whippets and i hope she finds one.

Yes, in one way it's good that they aren't thinking about the money, but I'm always very worried about dogs being offered 'free' - especially unspayed bitches.

Unfortunately there are unscrupulous people who go through the free ads looking for dogs to sell on or breed from. They will pose as people wanting to rehome for themselves, and can be very convincing.

Much better, IMO, to ask for a reasonable payment, perhaps as a donation to an animal charity. At least if people are willing to pay it shows some commitment.

The other side of the coin is that sometimes (not always of course) 'free to a good home' means wanting rid of the dog quick without caring much where it goes. :(

If this person does indeed love his dog, he will be grateful for help and advice, which may prevent her ending up in some horrendous circumstances. Like locked in filthy shed and being mated everytime she comes in season. If her owner does not have enough money to spay her, they can negotiate that the new owner will pay for the op. It is possible to tell the people who call that although the bitch is "free", they want the cost of her spaying, which would sort out those they do not want to deal with. :)
