I've just swithched on to the animal channel & am now watching with mounting horror this programme.

I've never seen it before but the guy doing the training is very extreme (and in my opinion violent) in his methods.

He has been called to a house to sort out an agressive dog. The family are a bit cluless to be honest but he has just marched into this dogs territory with his own stooge dog & surprise surprise the dog attacked his.

So he grabs the dogs collar & really hauled it around until it just submitted to him. The whole family, including small kiddies were in tears at how he was treating their dog. In it's own garden.

I'm sure there will be a "miracle cure" here but I don't like it at all.

Needless to say this is in America.

Has anyone else seen this & what do you think?

P.S. Just noticed the clock is wrong on my comp so it's really only 11.45 not 12.45

Didn't see it but it sounds awful :(

The trouble is that once something like this is 'on tv' people see it and think it's the right way to do things. It sounds as though something like this could do all sorts of damage.

Just looked at the programme guide where the guy is described as a "dog advocate and human-being life coach" - says it all really

Not seen it but I'm not interested in all this shit. If you can't treat the dog with respect then why have it at all? Makes me so f*** ing mad

I've been watching this program for the past few weeks and think he's very good ......His methods aren't all the same, and to be honest I think its refreshing to see a trainer actually on the same wavelengths as the dog ......

I watched it too - it wasnt nice to see the dog being handled like that BUT the dog was a serious threat to other dogs, the family had NO control over it, she was running away every time the gate was left open and would come home when she fancied, and it seemed to me as if the dog had a stressful life as it felt as though it was in charge of the family and had to protect them. I think when things are that dire that you have to take drastic action and change things quick. I also think he had to show the family how bad things were to get them on side. It may have been hard to watch but it seemed to work and the dog (and family, especially the 11 year old daughter) were much more relaxed and happy afterwards.

i'll be watchin it at 9pm when it is repeated...

(w00t) what channel is it on, and when??? please, Diane

i too have watched several of these now and i really like him. thats the only time i have seen him 'hands on ' like that but he must have felt it was necessary.

he always seems to have respect for the dogs and their welfare i think....?

anyway hes fit too......

I was a bit shocked that he would 'put his own dog at risk', by bringing his own dog in so soon and before he had properly assessed the dog.

I'm recording it from now on so will reserve my judgement for now.

Its on Animal Planet

Going off some of your replies maybe the bit I saw was a very extreme example of what he does. I will try to watch a few more & maybe will alter my opinion slightly. TBH the family of this poor dog hadn't a clue, they got the dog on the understanding that their daughter, aged about 11, had full responsibility for her. Poor little girl not only had a problem dog, she also had stupid parents too

Is it the same guy who did Dog whisperer? he was good, he seemed abrupt in his methods but they worked, he usd his own dogs a lot because they were well trained and very calm socialised

When you watch most of these programmes Dog Borstal, Me or the dog ect. I can't help thinking just thinking rehome the poor dog and give the owners some training

I'm sure they must pick the most stupid people they can find because it makes for better TV (w00t)

Yes but he was there all the time, and I presume he chose the stooge dog for good reason, it's not like it was a little yorkie. How can he assess it around dogs without using another dog, and at least that way no-one was sued or pts. He took another dog in at the end of the show and they were wagging tails.

As for the dog attacking another dog in its own garden - it clearly isnt the dogs decision who does or doesnt come into the garden - I'd do the same to any of mine who thought they could behave like that!

I think the dog whisperer is a different chap Lesley I've seen a few of his shows too (Ceaser something he was called, this guy is a Brad something)

i have watched him and ceaser milan and both have some very good points aout them , it is the OWNERS whom need the retraining for the dogs sake, id rather see a dog scruffed ( as a mother would do naturally) then it going out attacking other dogs or kids etc then loosing its life due to lack of training, did you see the it about dogs not loving us?? ouch that hurt but when explained it made sense, dogs are incapable of human emotions but will adore a leader and respect is gained through the leadership, both trainers work with the pack theory
