Does anyone else’s dog have this? Mine has an unspecified autoimmune condition that affects the pads on her paws causing them to swell and then tear. This happens to the point that sometimes a whole pad has the top layer removed…obviously painful and means she is unable to walk for up to a week. We use steroids and atopica which keep it at bay but I hate using steroids long term. She is only 4. Anyone else have anything similar and have found anything else that works? Many thanks for any advice or help!

That sounds awful, your poor dog (and poor you, it can't be easy).

Would bootees be of any help?

She won’t really tolerate boots but I would really like to be able to manage the condition better so it doesn’t get to the stage of her pads being painful. Seems that steroids are the most effective way for that so just wondering if anyone has anything else that seems to work

I am sorry also to hear this, it must be awful...
Is it @excuseme that knows a bit about colostrum? From my limited understanding, this can help support the immune system. It might be worth you doing a bit of research or talking to your vet.
