Guess most of you have never heard of it...I know I hadn't till I woke up in Barts hospital looking like a Christmas tree... (w00t)

Basically it is a bacteria that attacks the heart lining and valves, if caught early enough it can be treated with a long course of antibiotics, sadly it wasn't caught in time for myself.

Why am I telling you this? Well, it was confirmed 100% that my illness, that resulted in me suffering a heart attack, and having to have a mechanical valve fitted was caused by a dog bite. Yep, a little scratch, caused all this grief.

According to the microbioligists who looked at my case and studied and ran tests on my blood a bacteria carried by almost all dogs was the catalyst. This bacteria normally (99.99% of the time) is fought off by our immune system, however they discovered for some reason my immune system was extremly low and unable to combat the bacteria.

An up to date tetanus would also not of helped I am informed...

Therefore, please keep in mind that if you are ever bitten by a dog and experience any flu like symptons to visit your doctor ASAP, cos although extremly rare, it is very dangerous...

Regards,

Paul

A similar thing has happened to a friend of our family. unfortanally he didn't go to the doctors on time and has died. His was caused by a cut on his elbow which got infected. The infection then mutated with something in his imune system and shut all his internal organs down. Just goes to show we should all be carefull with dog bites or cuts.
