Q: You have two buckets and 100 balls, 50 white and 50 black. You wish to maximize the odds that someone picking a ball at random from one of the urns will pick a black ball.

How do you do so, and what are the maximum odds?

Send them to the bucket with black balls in it?????

There's two buckets - does one have white balls and one have black balls?

Nope :D - good guess though as that does give a 50/50 chance

Take all the black balls from the bucket, and put them in the urns?

Mark said the same as me, put the white balls in first and the black on top. Now Richard, tell us the answer.

Split them into black in one bucket and white in the other and have them pick from the bucket of black ones - 100% odds they'll get it right.

 is this one of those trick questions? because, though you have both coloured balls available, doesnt say you actually have to use them... so, if thats the case, you can get a 100% if only the black are used. if it isnt a trick question, then i havent a clue

No answer yet? :- " Is it a trick question? You talk about 2 buckets, but then ask about taking balls from urns - couldn't you just put black balls in the urns, and split the white balls between the two buckets?

Must check my copy & paste better  - for this question Buckets and Urns are the same

Here is the answer:

Put one black ball in one bucket, and all the other balls in the other bucket. Then the person will have a 1 in 2 (1/2) chance of picking the bucket with the single black ball, and a 1/2 chance of picking the bucket containing 49 black balls out of 99. This gives a combined odds of 148/198 or 74/99 or a little under 3/4 of picking a black ball.
