I found this on eBay

collar

I reported it but got back automated reply saying to check their list of banned items. I have emailed RSPCA in Queensland, but they will not get it until next morning. How could anybody put that on a dog

Maybe if few more people report it it will get taken off.

I am not sure, but I doubt they are.........will see what the RSPCA will say tomorrow

I saw someone using one in America on an episode of The Dog Whisperer so I presume they are legal there too!! Horrible.

I worked for a personal dog trainer, he used them on most dogs, and as you can guess they work well! :( (needless to say i didnt work there long!)

in the PDT industry these collars are used frequently :( , are very easy to get hold of and im afraid many dogs do wear them..... correct me if im wrong but they also use them in the MOD???

They are a disgraceful way to treat a dog, training it by fear of pain - absolutely disgusting. :(

p.s - i dont think pinch collars are illegal..... the police use them instead of the shock collars :(

I saw this too. But niavely (sp?) I thought that as the dog whisperer hadn't said anything about it, it must have been a normal collar and I was just not looking at it correctly.

:(

The seller is in Australia and selling to Australians only, so I guess they are legal out there ......I doubts theres much the RSPCA could do .....

i cant believe anyone would put this on a loving, trusting pet.beggars belief!

i saw that episode of the dog whisperer - its the only one i've ever see and put me off him for life. His rationale was that, as the people use these collars to train the rest of their dogs, he was fitting in with their methods :(

The dog was an ex lab animal who was very scared of people and not bonding with the family.

it's a shame as the rest of the stuff he was doing seemed very sensible - teaching the people to be as unthreatening as possible and not to 'force' love and affection on a dog that doesnt understand it, rather work on making a strong pack bond so that when the dog feels ready, s/he can do the whole pet thing

I couldn't work out where the collar fitted into any of this - the dog was not fear aggressive btw - in fact quite the oppostive, it was totally withdrawn and hid at every opportunity

There's been a thread on about these collars before I think and I agree they look awful but it may not be as bad as it looks.

Its actually a chiropractic collar. The proper name is a prong collar and if you look closely, the ends are turned over a 90 degrees so that they don't stick into the dog. Apparently (according to a book I've got on canine chiropractic methods) they cause less upper cervical subluxations than flat collars because the prongs distribute the pressure evenly around the neck.

On the other hand the book does go on to say that "nevertheless, prong collars are beset by controversy and are banned in AKC competitions."
