BARNEY

Beautiful Barney is a large ex-coursing greyhound who didn’t much like the coursing world. He has just turned 2 years old so is really only a baby still with lots to learn. Barney is a real cracker of a hound. He has a gorgeous fawn coat with tiger stripes of brindle running through it. He has a very elegant build and really is an eye-catcher. Whoever adopts this boy is sure to get a lot of attention!

~ Personality ~

Barney’s personality matches his gorgeous appearance. He is a big, lush boy who adores to be adored. He loves his cuddles and gives back as much as he gets. He is such a big softie and although he would love nothing more than curling up in your arms, he is a bit on the large size for a lap dog! This boy is going to love the family life, and has so much potential.

~ Other Animals ~

Barney is great with the other greyhounds in our kennels, and should be ok to live with another dog. He enjoys playing and racing about, greyhound style, for about 5 minutes before flopping in the grass for a breather. He has not been tested yet with cats, but this can be carried out prior to adoption if required. There is a possibility this boy may be cat friendly, so watch this space!

~ In the Home ~

Barney boy has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.

~ Out and About ~

Like most greyhounds, Barney is a complete couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He walks very well on the lead, considering how big he is, and is generally a very well behaved chappie.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

~ Where Am I? ~

Barney is currently being kennelled in Ireland and will be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe when a suitable permanent or foster home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up, and if you are in the UK and wish to meet before adopting him, he will be fostered in the Norfolk area.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Barney is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhound Connection is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or short-term fostering Barney, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks!
