Went to some new ground, ferreting today...We were just walking up the first hedge, waiting for the dogs to mark, when Piper started to cast out into the field a bit. I thought that she was scenting the bunnies coming out from the hedge to start with, until much to mine and B.G.s' surprise, about 30 or 40 yards into the field, up popped a prime specimen of that rare beast, the Cheshire hare...

Piper broke her leg last October, but held her ground well about 10 or 15 yards behind puss...Where's Barney? says B.G., just as the said dog powered past Piper to get up the hares' arse from about 50yards back..."I'll have 2 of those, when you breed that litter", he continued..

They coursed through 3 fields, turning her well and rattling the hare each time she came to a hedge or ditch, causing her to run along and back the obstacle, several times, before going through...Barney nailed her about 1/4 of a mile away. A big strong hare with no excuses...Now we know why they give them 70 yards law under rules

I had to go and pick the hare up (no retrieve....that dog wants shooting)......The poor shivery little whippet was so b*ll*xed after the course (NOT) that he picked up a bunny which B.G.s' Plummer pushed out of the hedge, as we walked back to the ferret box.

Photo Finish (Barneys') first hare caught when he is 16 months
