Just wondering if anybody had experienced an allergic reaction in their dog to this medication, and wondered what form it took.

looks familiar that name does entroflaxin, are they anti biotics, im sure thats what made my bitch really ill a while ago

Yes, Keith. It is an antibiotic. I was told by my vet that it was inpossible for a dog to have a reaction. I thought it was a bit odd myself as my other whippy had a reation to it when given via injection. Just wondered if anybody else had had any problems with it.

Having looked it up on the internet this morning it does seem to be quite an aggressive drug and certainly some of my esxperiences matched what I have read.

Some vet he is then, im afraid he would have to go, Entroflaxin made my dog real ill, lost lots of weight thro not eating anything for days, gobbing up from both ends, when i took her back, he immediately took her off the entroflaxin, and put her on summat else, well over a week i struggled with her, good luck

Thanks. I am going to look into a new vet. Believe it or not , this vet came recommended.

I've had awful problems with Baytril in birds, many cannot tolerate it at all and have ended up losing them due to the toxic effects of the drug rather than the underlying problem (and it's the only antibiotic licenced for poultry :rant: ) Although there is some anecdotal information that it may not be well tolerated by some animals, this is the only information on known contraindications:

"PRECAUTIONS:

Quinolone-class drugs should be used with caution in animals with known or suspected Central Nervous System (CNS) disorders. In such animals, quinolones have, in rare instances, been associated with CNS stimulation which may lead to convulsive seizures."

Baytril is used widely with Rodents, I'm usually forcing it down some poor critters throat . Never had any ill-effects with it, infact quite the opposite :unsure: I'm glad the possible allergic reaction in dogs has been brought up otherwise I would've just trusted it had the stituation arouse with Alfie!
