Beautiful Bedlington Needs A Home

:( they are all beautiful :( just a shame the ones i know that I would be suitable for, wouldnt be alright with other dogs and/or young children. i could cry for them.

He's gorgeous, it's like looking at a photo of our Rafferty, they are so similar.

Oh my, what a darling. Really hope he finds a suitable home. :luck:

rang up about this gorgeous boy, apparentley he's got reall y bad food aggression that needs working on...no good for with little kids.

what a beautiful pup

love the two tone colours

Hope someone makes him a happy pup

:)

So sad to see all these lovely dogs looking for new homes - so many greyhounds and lurchers - it is such a pity that they have ended up in a situation with no real person to love and look after them as part of a family. I really wish all these dogs find a happy home where they will be loved and cherised all of their days.

Beautiful dog, he sounds quite a little character though :- "

ditto :(

There's an absolutely gorgeous greyhound girl there called Pebble. Black with a white flash on her chest. She's got such a beautiful, gentle face :huggles:

ha, J.T. what a great pic!

how would you describe the bedlington temperament - on the whippet board when I asked I was told they were possibly timid/standoffish. ( of course this is what people sayabout whippets too..)

what do you think?

Well Kitty, I don't know if Raffy is a typical example of the breed or not, he is a rescue dog & has quite a few problems. He can be timid & has even run home from the park a few times when scared. (No main roads to cross, Thank God) One day he will be scared of his own shadow & the next day he will quite happily pick a fight with the biggest dog he can find. Once he knows & trusts someone he is a friend for life. A few of my dog walking friends will quite happily carry him round the park, he asks to be picked up & even tho I say, let him walk, they think he's cute so give in & pick him up  At home he would protect the house to the death, we don't get many visitors (w00t) To sum up, he's a very loyal, loving dog but if you get on the wrong side of him.......WATCH OUT (w00t)

thanks JT that was interesting. he's quite unpredictable, because of his early life which you dont know about, I suppose. He's lucky to have you now.

Another question! Does he moult?!

I read that bedlingtons DONT moult, and so are good for people (like me) who get allergic to dog hair and get asthma. But then again some people on here saythier bedlingtons DO moult - or maybe this is beddy x's, I dont know exactly.

NO he doesn't moult but is quite high maintenance. I don't give him the usual beddy cut cos I prefer him scruffy  . I clip him "down to the wood" when the weather gets warmer & then again in summer. When he gets muddy I have to make sure that all the mud is washed out from between his toes or it sets & irritates his feet. He'll bring half the park home stuck to his fur. Nails need clipping every 2-3 weeks, they grow really fast & don't wear down as his feet turn up slightly & claws don't touch the ground enough. His ears need plucking inside every week so he doesn't get infections in them :x . I feel as tho I'm always messing with the poor lad & when he hears the grooming box lid click off he hides :( It's well worth it cos he looks lovely when he's just been done, for about 5mins till he messes himself up again!!! o:)

BTW Kitty, forgot to say, if you are thinking of having a beddy....Go for it. I'd have another tomorrow (w00t) Well, maybe in a few years time, this lot keep me busy enough for now.

yes, I prefer them scruffy too...

plucking his ears?!! blimey! did you teach yourself to do this stuff, JT? Did you read a book about it or what?

so you'd have to wash his feet every day in wet weather, really? Now I know why I saw a dog in the park the other day wearing little paw cover shoes!!

yes, I am thinking of getting one.... I'm assuming living with one - in terms of allergy - will be like living with a poodle, which I did as a child, and I was fine, whereas I am allergic to fine hair dogs, it seems.

Thanks J.T.

and another question.... if you see this JT... what would you say a beddie's energy level is compared to a whippet? do they love to lie on the sofa too, or are they more active?

When we got Raffy I didn't know the first thing about beddies but he got an ear infection within a month and has to be sedated so the vet could clean them out. Wherever he'd been before, they had never even touched his ears, or anything else really :( I read everything I could & joined 2 Bedlington Societies & learned as I went along. I went on a grooming course & bought some really good clippers too. He will never look like a "posh" dog but he suits me  To do his ears I've got some forcep type tweezers with a good grip on them & this gets all the hair out from deep down inside his ears. At first he didn't like it but the more often I pluck them the easier the hair comes out. Afterwards I use THORN_IT powder which keeps everything sweet down there. Exercise- he is a lazy little sod and would be quite happy to spend forever more at home. He doesn't like going out much, especially in the rain (w00t) He feels safe at home. When I do drag him out he doesnt run around with the others much, every now & then he'll have a mad 5mins but thats it. He can run as fast as the lurchers, he just chooses not to

Hope all this is helping you to decide that you can't live without a lovely little bedlington.

Julie.
