BECKY
**UPDATED: DECEMBER 2012**
Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Becky would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home.
Key Points: Gentle, sweet once she knows you, shy of strangers.
This absolutely stunning lady is Becky, a now ex-racing greyhound girl who will be 3 years old in January. Becky is a real head-turner – her blue brindle coat is in fabulous condition and her huge amber eyes are extremely striking. We hope that this gorgeous girl won’t be waiting long for her forever family.
~ Personality ~
Generally: Very sweet, shy at first, needs to gain confidence
Becky is the ‘new girl on the block’ and has only just come to us. We are still getting to know each other. So far though she has been an absolute sweetheart. Becky can be a shy little thing when you first introduce yourself, but give her a bit of time to come to you and you have a loyal friend for life. She is still a young lady who is eager to learn and really wants to trust you, she just needs someone who will calmly and patiently help build her confidence over time.
~ In the Home ~
Generally: Not yet assessed. Would do best living with another dog(s).
Dear Becky has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. Though everything will be a new experience for Becky, we don’t think it will take her long to find her comfy bed! She would do best in a home without young children and ideally with another dog or two to help her adjust to the changes.
~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Good with other dogs, not cat tested.
Becky has been well behaved with the other greyhounds in the kennels. She feels more confident when surrounded by her greyhound friends, and would do best in a home with at least one other confident dog already present to show her the ropes and help her settle. She has not been tested with small dogs or cats but these will be carried out prior to adoption.
~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks to heel, travels well, nervous of new situations.
Becky travels good in the car and walks well on the lead provided there's not something scary nearby. Like most greyhounds, she will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Due to her current nervousness, we would not recommend Becky be let offlead in an unsecure area until she has had recall training and been given a long enough time to fully bond with her owners. Eventually though, there is nothing stopping this gorgeous young lady from coming out of her shell and learning that the world is actually a really fun place. It will be so rewarding to be a part of that growth.
~ Where Am I? ~
Becky is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Becky is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.
If you are interested in adopting or fostering Becky, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.
There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Becky, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .
Thank you.

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~
Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.
Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:
