Wednesday 27th July saw the press reception staged in Birr Castle to launch the final fair of the Great Game Fairs of Ireland series. Lord & Lady Rosse hosted the reception in the castle and it was great to see both mix with the wide range of anglers, shooters, gundog, equestrian, hunting and terrier & lurcher enhusiasts.
Representatives of the three main sporting bodies in the South were there to throw their weight and the support of their organisations behind Ireland's national Game Fair which will take place on the 27th & 28th August.
Des Crofton from the 26,000 strong NARGC, Noel Carr from the 20,000 member FISSTA and Lyall Plant from the 11,000 strong CAI all committed themselves to mounting extended displays and to encouraging their members to help make this the best ever fair to be mounted in the South of Ireland.
The new lurcher racing organising team from the Roscrea Club - young and older- were there in force very smartly turned out in their club uniform and useful discussion were held with Lurcher & Terrier Show director Matt Lee and with Fair Directors Philip Lawton and yours truly. We are all committed to making this year's fair the best ever for terrier and lurcher enthusiasts.
