BILLY

**UPDATED: JANUARY 2013**

Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK.

Key Points: Playful, intelligent, very adaptable, dog & cat friendly, still learning the house rules.

Billy is a young lurcher pup who is currently 5 months old. Billy’s mother was rescued off the streets in Ireland when heavily pregnant, and Billy was born there before coming to Kerry Greyhounds UK with his sister Holly to find a home to call his own. Billy is a lovely fawn and white boy with a thin white stripe down his nose, and is currently standing at 22” to the shoulder.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Super friendly, playful, cheeky, fun-loving, social, adorable!

Billy is your typical bouncy puppy. He is happy-go-lucky, inquisitive, very friendly and full of beans. He adores everyone he meets as if they are his whole world, and will shower you in kisses if given half the chance. He is super playful, cheeky and very intelligent. This boy is approaching the age now where he is looking for a job and purpose in life, so it would be the perfect time to introduce some fun activities such as agility training or flyball – Billy would love both!

Billy is also now starting to get more independent as he heads closer to adolescence. He has an active mind and, if not given a job to do, he will go and find his own fun. This can include digging in the garden and chewing household objects. He can be very easily redirected, however, and actively loves having something to do. As such, he is responsive to training and is a quick learner. Especially if you have tasty treats at hand!

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Learning the rules, almost housetrained, ok to be left, still chews.

Billy has been in his foster home for 1 month now and is doing very well, especially considering his young age and the steep learning curve that he’s going through. He is quiet through the night and his housetraining is coming along nicely – he knows now to ask to go out. He has also been left with just canine company without any hassle. As mentioned, Billy will still chew items in the house if he’s a bit bored, or if he doesn’t yet know that he shouldn’t. He is easily redirected and will stop if told, and teaching him that all household items are off the menu is a gradual work in progress that may need to be continued in his future home. Billy is still learning the do’s and don’ts of a home, but he is a young dog with fantastic potential to be whatever kind of dog you ask of him.

Being a young puppy, Billy is still very flexible and adaptable to any type of home. He would love canine company, but could also be very happy as an only dog provided he wasn’t left for very long periods of time. He is very active and clever so would relish having a job and focus in life, even if its just fetching a ball for fun! Billy would be a great puppy for children over the age of 8 as he is eager to learn tricks and loves to play.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Ok to live with dogs, kids, cats and small furries. Social and playful.

Billy is happily sharing his foster home with a menagerie of animals including 4 dogs, 2 gerbils, 2 rats, 3 chickens and his sister Holly! He gets on excellently with other dogs and takes a telling off very well. His sister is a naturally shy, gentle girl and because of that, Billy can sometimes get a bit rough when playing with her, but this has not been a problem with the other dogs he has met and interacted with. Billy would therefore be a great playmate for another dog who likes a bit of rough ‘n’ tumble but who will tell him enough when they want to stop.

When meeting new dogs, Billy can be initially over excited, as expected from a puppy of his age. After he calms down he is great though, very social and happy to interact. Billy would hugely benefit from some puppy socialisation classes so that he can interact with more dogs his own age and learn to curb his occasional verging on the boisterous side with his sister.

Billy is not currently living with a cat, but he has been cat tested and got on great with his feline friend. Because he is very playful, he might do best with a cat who would tell him to back off if they wish, rather than a cat who would always flee and so encourage him to chase. There is no malice at all in Billy, but he might see a cat running away as an invitation to be played with! If the cat stands their ground, Billy will leave them be.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Social, inquisitive, travels well. Sometimes pulls on lead.

Billy LOVES getting out and exploring the world, as every young puppy should. His lead training is a work in progress as he can still pull at times, but he’s making fantastic improvements in this area. He travels well in the car and settles down for long journeys. He is very inquisitive and wants to learn as much about the world around him as possible. He is not fully used to very busy areas and loud traffic such as trucks, but he is getting there. When meeting other people and animals on his outdoor adventures, Billy is great and is a lovely social boy.

Given lots of recall work in the home and some time to develop a nice bond with his new owners, Billy is suitable to be let off lead eventually in safe areas away from public roads.

~ Where Am I? ~

Billy is in a foster home in Norfolk, UK. Please note that we only place dogs to cat homes in and closely around the Norfolk area, but if no cats are involved we can rehome to anywhere in the UK provided you can travel to meet him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Billy is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. He is not yet neutered due to his age, and an agreement will be required to get him once he has reached an age safe to do so. We can discuss this in more detail upon your enquiry.

If you are interested in adopting Billy, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There is an application form for adopting a Kerry Greyhound dog, and we will ask you to fill it in as the first step in the adoption process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the form, as well as further information on our homing procedures, on the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html.

Thank you.

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:
