One of my bitches is bordering on 9 weeks from season, she has gone into milk to the point that I can squeeze some out of her. She had her only litter on her previous season. I was wondering what people considered were the best remedies for helping the milk to dry up, the poor girl gets herself into a right tiz every evening, panting and crying (just as she did when she was bred from - she ended up with a C-Section as she didn't progress into labour).

Before anyone asks the obvious, she is definately not in pup (unless by miraculous conception :clown: ).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated (before I have to start milking her like a cow (w00t) )

we use epsom salts its an old remedy us women had to use it works a treat :)

we use a quarter of a teaspoon in their dinner every day for about a week longer if need be .

some of the best remedies are the old ones you get it from the chemist lasts for ages

Limiting the amount of WATER she drinks will dry up the milk. My vet gave me this tip ages ago with a bitch who had a phantom prgnancy every time she had come into season. But be very careful not to let her dehydrate. And only do it for a day or so as longer can cause kidney damage.

Good Luck

Thanks for your advice. I have some Epsom Salts hiding in the back of the dog cupboard somewhere (yes they have their own cupboard with everything from Electrolytes to potassium permangenate and even wooly jumpers !). Blaze is a big water drinker so I'll watch that too, it'll be tough with having five others to think of so I can't really remove the bowl as it wouldn't be fair on them but I'll keep an eye out that she doesn't go drinking it by the pint.

It's incredible how quickly it's developed, this morning she was only producing in 2 teats and now she's filling up six !
