please can someone advise me, I have a 9 month old setter, who is 2 weeks into her first season, She has had a complete personality change. She has bitten me twice, she is constantly attacking my other 2 bitches (lab, springer), it appears she has gone deaf, completely ignoring me, shes off her food, shes lethargic, moody, grumpy. Is this normal ? my other 2 bitches never behaved this way. Any advice greatly received.

some bitches do get funny at that time, same as us human girls. for her to be snappy i'd think shes having some pain. might be worth trying a hot waterbottle, and making sure she has her own 'quiet' spot where she can relax without the other dogs going near. keep an eye on her, any other symptoms etc, make sure she has plenty of fresh water. watch the colour of her discharge: if it starts turning dark and really foul smelling, get her to a vet asap as it could be pyo. most of all just be patient and give her reassurance and cuddles when she wants them, a first season can be so confusing for a girl, mine didnt know what to make of it when they had theirs x

As Lalena says different bitches react in different ways. My setter doesn't act any differently when she's in season as when she's not. She's nutty as a fruit cake 24/7. She has funny seasons even as long as 6/7 weeks. I spoke to her breeder she says its not unknown in the breed. I am constantly checking her to see if she's in season. My male whippets and greyhound are not intersted in her so I can't tell by how they react to her they just ignore her all the time.
